Sanofi has appointed GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) senior vice president, Anne C Whitaker, as president, North America Pharmaceuticals, while CEO of Sanofi's US operations, Greg Irace, is to become senior vice president, Global Services.

Whitaker has been senior vice president and business unit head, Cardiovascular, Metabolic and Urology, at GSK since 2009 after joining the company in 1992. She will begin her role with Sanofi on September 1, 2011, and will report to Hanspeter Spek, president, Global Operations.

Her responsibilities will include driving growth of Sanofi's pharmaceutical operation in the US, the company having seeing a decline in sales of 4.1 per cent in the region for the first quarter of 2011. Whitaker will also become a member of the global management committee.

Irace has been at Sanofi since 1994, taking over his current US responsibilities in 2007. In his newly created role, he will be responsible for shared support functions across all Sanofi businesses in North America and play a key role in the development of a global strategy for shared information services.

He will report to Jérôme Contamine, executive vice president and chief financial officer, Sanofi.
