UCB launches Parkinson's campaign

To coincide with World Parkinson's Day, UCB has launched the "Today I will…" campaign, inviting people affected by Parkinson's disease to share personal commitments online.

Pledges can be made at Parkinson's Voices, with commitments of 25 words or less, ranging from every day goals to lifetime ambitions, welcomed by the campaign.

Examples of pledges made so far include:

"Today I will go home from the World Parkinson's Congress full of ideas to help those with PD who are members of my Newcastle Branch," Angela, United Kingdom.

"Today I will renew my passion for public education and community awareness to dispel the myth that Parkinson's is just an 'old person's disease' and explore the unique challenges of living with an early onset diagnosis," Peter Davison, Canada.

Speaking about the campaign, Knut-Johan Onarheim, president of the European Parkinson's Disease Association (EPDA), the body that organises World Parkinson's Day, said: "Today I will..." is a way for people with Parkinson's, their friends and families, to share these successes and set goals and targets, which no matter how big or small can be a great source of support and inspiration to people with Parkinson's around the world.”

World Parkinson's Disease Day is held every April 11 to commemorate the birthday of Dr James Parkinson, who was the first medical researcher to describe the condition.

The EPDA has more information on World Parkinson's Day.

You can make your pledge at Parkinson's Voices.

UCB has also supported a YouTube channel for people affected by Parkinson's to share their stories through video.
