Valeant completes AB Sanitas purchase

Canada-based Valeant Pharmaceuticals International has completed the acquisition of AB Sanitas in a deal worth €314m

Canada-based Valeant Pharmaceuticals International has completed the acquisition of AB Sanitas in a deal worth €314m.

Announced in May 2011, the deal will see Valeant take full control of the Lithuania-based speciality pharmaceutical firm, gaining 390 generic products in nine Central and Eastern European countries.

Valeant has made several acquisitions in 2011, including the February purchase of privately held firm PharmaSwiss for €350m. This was followed in July by the acquisition of Sanofi's Dermik dermatology unit for $425m.

At the end of July 2011, Valeant was rumoured to be considering making a bid for Sweden-based Meda, and in August 2011, The Wall Street Journal reported Valeant was to purchase dermatological specialists Medicis.
