VCCP Health and Havas Life Medicom topped the leader board at the 2014 PM Society Awards in London on Friday.

The agencies each took home three Gold trophies, with VCCP bagging its haul for its work for Mundipharma on the chemotherapy Levact (bendamustine) and a pain exhibition.

Meanwhile the ceremony saw Havas Life Medicom, which picked up three Gold trophies, rewarded for its dysphagia awareness work on behalf of clinical nutrition company Fresenius Kabi.

Snapping at the heels of VCCP Health and Havas Life Medicom was Havas Lynx, which was awarded a Gold apiece for its Sanofi Diabetes STAR Cloud campaign and work on AbbVie's respiratory treatment Synergis.

Now in their 29th year there were a number of changes for the 2014 Awards - including dropping the word 'advertising' from their name.

This was done to recognise their shift away from rewarding traditional advertising, which is now only reflected in nine of the 19 categories, towards a broader 'marketing excellence' remit.

PM Society Awards chairman Neil Smith said: “The key to marketing excellence lies in the underlying principles of creativity, execution or the use of the appropriate craft and impact.

“These are attributes that can be compared equally, whatever the medium or campaign audience.”

The PM Society, which runs a separate annual digital awards ceremony later in the year, also marked the 2014 awards by opening up most of the categories to digital entries, which were judged alongside traditional media with the same concept, design, craft and impact criteria.
