Vertex appoints Ken Horton as chief legal officer

Nancy Wysenski to retire as chief commercial officer

Vertex Pharmaceuticals has appointed Ken Horton to the position of chief legal officer and executive VP.

Reporting to Vertex's chair, president and CEO Dr Jeffrey Leiden, Horton will work closely with the departing chief legal officer and senior VP Ty Howton over the next few months during a transition phase.

Howton is not the only one leaving Vertex, with chief commercial officer Nancy Wyenski set to retire after three years at the company.

During her time at Vertex, she built the company's first commercial team to support the approval and launch of Vertex's first medicines, Incivek (telaprevir) and Kalydeco (ivacaftor).

"Nancy was critical in establishing a talented commercial team that led the successful launch of Vertex's first two medicines and in preparing the company for continued growth in the coming years,” said Dr Leiden.

“After more than 30 years in healthcare, she has chosen to move on to the next chapter of her life, and we wish her all the best in retirement.”

A search for a new chief commercial officer is currently ongoing.
