Innovation and technology at Roche’s “Air Spain” Event

Roche Aire - 16

Still shocked by the image of “virtual” Mark Zuckerberg appearing at MWC through the use of Oculus, you cannot deny that the immersive technology is a great tool to communicate and work  with when it comes to research. The event Air Spain organised by Roche, spoke about how to  optimise research, knowledge and treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

The aim of the conference is to transfer research results in the field of clinical practice and provide the medical community with the opportunity to learn about the disease in more detail. Therefore, more than 150 specialists in the areas of pulmonology, radiology and pathology met and discussed the latest scientific advances and potential challenges in approaching IPF.

The event, now second edition held in Spain, which took place on 22nd and 23rd January, was organised by E-lixir Consulting Spain incorporating a digital experience with various formats. The App was developed adhoc, with real-time interactive voting and a function to send questions to the speaker, as well as streaming of the presentation of their tablets, agenda information and speaker biographies.

This was for the interactive training part of the event. As for the experimental part of the event, Oculus augmented reality glasses were used, allowing 3D vision, to explain the life of a patient affected by IPF, recreating the “path” that the patient experiences from the shocking moment of diagnosis, through to the early symptoms of the diseases right through to the improvement of quality of life with treatment. In addition, video mapping was used to reinforce the image of the event and served as a platform to communicate different activities throughout the day.

Meanwhile, the app allowed Roche to offer their audience a more personalized experience as they were able to access all information of the event itself and the presentation contents on their devices diminishing fear of public speaking and waiting Q&A times.

The result of this event was high attendee participation through the use of the interactive voting system and a great commitment from the speakers who prepared their presentations to generate debate and integrate questions from the audience into their speaking time, which guaranteed full involvement from the specialists that were invited to attend this event.
