Porterhouse Pathfinders: A new internship programme at Porterhouse Medical

- PMLiVE
At the Porterhouse Medical Group, we are delighted to announce the launch of our newly branded internship programme, Porterhouse Pathfinders.

The Porterhouse Medical Group comprises medical communications, market research and insights professionals, with offices in the UK and the USA. We work with clients across the globe to generate insight and to develop creative scientific and medical communications with maximum impact. Our employees include medical writers, account managers, creatives and insights professionals who work together on a variety of projects to ensure that they are completed to the highest standards for our clients.

We first started our internship programme 6 years ago. The thinking at that time was that an internship programme would allow our agency to ‘test drive’ talent, while giving candidates the opportunity to develop skills, make connections and gain experience to better prepare them for the rigours of their first job. Over the years, the programme has been developed and refined, and we now work with universities, providing valuable hands-on experience to support students and graduates.

Jon Hallows, Joint MD of the group, comments: “Having worked recently with the Manchester Metropolitan University to help develop a medical communications degree, we have evolved our original programme to our newly branded ‘Porterhouse Pathfinders’ internship, which introduces interns to all the different functions within our multidisciplinary agency. This experience often means that the intern uncovers unexpected interests and strengths, so a would-be account manager, for example, may find that they have excellent editorial skills (or vice versa).”

Jan Coetzee, our talent manager, says: “We ensure that our interns gain a lot from their time at Porterhouse and are delighted with our new brand, which fits well with our company values – our PATH, which speaks to Pride in what we do, Ambition, Team work and, essentially, Happiness at work. The programme also increases awareness of the potential career options within medical communications and of the industry itself, as many applicants for editorial and accounts roles had  never heard of medical communications before looking for an internship.”

The Porterhouse Pathfinders internship programme
We offer a 12-week internship for bright, enthusiastic life-sciences graduates with a passion for science and communication. The successful candidates benefit from the opportunity to experience first-hand the workings of a successful medical communications agency. In addition to gaining experience of industry-specific tools and processes, and providing general support to our medical writers and account managers, candidates undertake their own project, guided by a member of our team.

We also offer a creative internship, where talented candidates work within our professional creative team to learn about and develop the vital skills needed for design in the global medical communications industry.
