Thoughts on the intersection between technology and psychology

Paul Mannu - Master Practitioner, Behavioural Insights at Cello Health Insight gives us his succinct thoughts on the intersection between technology and psychology

Every time your wearable drives you to reduce calories or climb those stairs, you are seeing the significant impact
of the technology/psychology interface. Neuroscience and big data are drawing us closer to technological predictions
of consumer behaviour.

Think of the film ‘Minority Report’. Psychology still dominates our understanding of behaviour. Modern psychological principles of behaviour (behavioural economics) have directed technologies to nudge us to change behaviour. Without psychology, technology can lead to failed start-ups and poor IT solutions.

Connected data will be a growing technological trend in healthcare, and avoiding common sense will increase the risk of failure.
