2020 Finalists


2019 was the year that 90TEN focused on staying true to our unique culture and diversifying the agency’s services. The results exceeded all expectations with a 25% increase in fee income, 25 new clients and expansion of the team by 21% over the past 12 months.

Behavioural science services alongside the agency’s corporate, advocacy and digital capabilities fuelled growth. Externally, 90TEN built a new global network of agency partners and created an integrated services function.

Recognising that the success of 90TEN is down to the team’s passion to do the right thing for their clients, patients, fellow team members and their community, 2019 has also been about supporting the team’s well-being, demonstrating corporate citizenship and leading an industry dialogue on creativity and innovation in healthcare communications.

emotive is a global healthcare communications agency. After achieving consistent growth to 2018 we entered 2019 wanting to differentiate ourselves and adapt our business to the changing needs of our clients. Having gained experience with novel therapies, we decided to make this our focus and position the business to service smaller biopharma targeting rare disorders and those with exciting advanced therapies.

We set up an Advanced Therapies Unit and increased our expertise through talent acquisition. To offer a wider suite of services for global clients we expanded our collection with consultancies offering insight and access and opened a US office.

2019 was a huge success. We supported clients with a range of novel therapies and we achieved an average score of 5.68 out of 6 in our client satisfaction survey; we won Gold at the PM Society Digital Awards for our Spot the Rare campaign and won Pharma Times Communications Team of the Year Award in the Charity Category. We improved our team benefits, made ten new hires, and improved retention. Finally, we won six new accounts and exceeded our growth targets. 2019 was a truly great year!

Evoke KYNE

Evoke KYNE has its heritage in two strong health communications agencies, KYNE and Evoke PR & Influence, which joined forces in May 2019. Together, we have proven to be greater than the sum of our parts. During a year of significant transformation, results exceeded expectations – seeing nearly 25% growth and more than 15 new clients. Driven by our mantra that intent is nothing without action, we have actively worked to make a difference in everything we do, from outbreak response to malaria elimination. Our more than 110-strong team is united in the belief that we are not just an agency; we are a family – a family committed to making a sustainable impact in health, while creating the ‘best place to work’. The partnerships we broker and relationships we foster, combined with our digital, earned media and public health prowess, provide us with the ability to bring about positive change for people all around the world.

We have new offices, new clients and new ideas, but what has remained the same is our purpose-driven mission and commitment to our people and clients.

Working together, we are now in a stronger position than ever to change the world for the better.

GCI Health

GCI Health has achieved sustained growth, with no less than 435% growth over the past five  years. In 2019 we nearly doubled in size, growing by 83% through organic growth and the addition of four new accounts to our client roster, employing 16 new team members in the process.

Despite this continuous unprecedented growth, we worked hard to maintain our established family culture winning three ‘Best Place to Work’ awards. We have strived to maintain the ‘boutique’ feel that makes clients buy our expertise again and again.

Our people continue to be our core strength and our investment in them is critical to our success.

McCann Health Medical Communications

2019 was a tremendous year for McCann Health Medical Communications (MHMC). Our key strengths and differentiators are our people, culture and our commitment to science.

We are proud to have achieved revenue growth of 29%, without acquisition, over the past three years. The revenue in 2019 remained consistent with the prior year despite a very volatile environment; this enabled us to consolidate our position and to achieve a record operating margin, improving 1.4% from 2018. Our clients remain loyal and delighted to partner with us. We achieved a retention rate of 80%, and 26% of our team was promoted. 91% of our staff said this is a great place to work and they are proud of the work we do.

Our vision is ‘to help our clients and their brands play a meaningful difference to people’s lives’. We continually align to this vision through our commitment to our people, to healthcare professionals, to patients and to the broader community, supported by the launch of our Global Scientific Council – a pioneering initiative in the industry. We are the only healthcare communications agency to be invited to join in the United Nations Private Sector Roundtable.

We have the most collaborative and talented teams who work relentlessly to push boundaries through our own initiatives, through our client partnerships and the greater community, to make a genuinely meaningful difference. 2019 has been no exception to this – making a meaningful difference is at the heart of everything we do.
