Summary of work

Incontinence problems are part of daily life for millions of people across the UK. Yet they remain one of the most enduring health taboos in modern society. Unmet need is high and NHS services too often fail to offer timely access to the right treatment and support. The expert group on lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) was set up with a simple goal: to work with policy-makers, healthcare professionals (HCPs) and patients to secure improvements in the quality of care for people with continence problems. A carefully devised and executed live event was identified as the optimal vehicle to address each stakeholder’s needs, creating a stand-out moment in the year for the whole continence community – one that would act as a powerful catalyst for change in both policy and practice.

Here we saw an activity that fulfilled a clear unmet need, bringing all the stakeholders together. It was a creative and thoughtful approach in a difficult disease area and worked hard on several levels to deliver strong outcomes.
