Partnering for progress in lung cancer

by Incisive Health for the Global Lung Cancer Coalition

Summary of work

Someone, somewhere in the world, dies from lung cancer every 30 seconds; no country has survival rates that are as good as they should be. Global Lung Cancer Coalition (GLCC) members had a good grasp of the challenges facing their individual countries, but less knowledge of how they compared to their neighbours.

The GLCC exists to help member organisations do their job better for their communities. Partners wanted to make it easy to share information, but also to turn anecdotes and insight into intelligence that could be used in any country to campaign for change.

Through its programme, the GLCC uncovered and distilled evidence of global variations into a new, accessible, interactive e-Atlas resource - the Global Lung Cancer e-Atlas. For the first time anyone, anywhere in the world can create and download an at-a-glance summary of how their country performs on lung cancer compared to other nations. A comprehensive study to map the international leaders of lung cancer research will be published in 2016.

The GLCC doesn’t just want to talk about what people can do, but give members the practical tools to do it. By comparing outcomes, and sharing intelligence and tools, this partnership achieved precisely that.

Judges' comments

This entry was neat, simple and explicit with its objectives, outlining a clear strategy which was achieved. The partnership piece was particularly strong, and the inclusion of meeting agendas was a high point. It would be very interesting to see next year.
