Caring for Carers

by Hill+Knowlton Strategies for Otsuka Lundbeck

Summary of work

H+K saw an opportunity for Lundbeck to address the unmet needs of family carers, looking after their loved ones who suffer from diseases such as psychosis and schizophrenia. We had the insight that in this field of medicine where patients often find the tasks of daily living and social interaction hard, the carer is more critically important than in many other areas. So H+K developed ‘The Carer Academy', a first of its kind online course available across the globe that focused on empowering carers through education. The campaign surpassed all expectations, with 8,500% more carers participating than our goal.

Judges’ comments

Caring for Carers identified a need then developed a robust, practical solution with benchmarked evaluation data to support the impact made. It was methodical and delivered the right amount of education to engage, but not overwhelm. It was great to see that the carers were recognised and we can see how this could be work that improves year on year.
