Summary of work

2016 was an amazing year for Porterhouse: we won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise and were accredited by Investors in People at the silver level. We also recorded double-digit growth in our turnover, gross profit, net profit and net profit margin. This was due in part to our business strategy, which focuses on high-value global medical affairs accounts in the secondary care space; we won two such accounts in 2016. We have also launched an extensive social media programme.

We worked hard on elucidating our values in 2016, especially the entrepreneurial spirit that we encourage in all our staff, and have ensured that they are central to the way the business is run. This has really helped with staff retention (we had a 5% staff turnover rate in 2016).

We grew our largest account by 40% in 2016, mostly from encouraging the client to position its activities under an umbrella programme that supports the existing product and provides a platform for future launches, as well as cementing commitment from and recognition among the KOL community.

Finally, we have developed a close working relationship with an external expert trainer to give individualised training to our senior and high-flying junior staff.
