Hepatitis Awareness Leading Outcomes (HALO) report

by Virgo Health for Roche

Summary of work

Outstanding medical writing enabled the significant burden of hepatitis C to be packaged alongside innovative service provision solutions in the Hepatitis Awareness Leading Outcomes (HALO) report. Such was the quality of the writing, HALO attracted wide endorsement from medical professional and third sector bodies and provided the basis for a media campaign and CPD accredited webcast for specialist nurses.

Unlike many predecessor reports on hepatitis C, HALO outlined the increasing impact of the disease in the UK, alongside real-life examples of how the NHS can address the issue. Authored by veteran Health Editor of The Times Nigel Hawkes, the report has been received as a robust, practical driver of change in the delivery of healthcare services.

The HALO report and campaign was endorsed by The Hepatitis C Trust (THCT), British Liver Trust (BLT) and European Liver Patients Association (ELPA) and impacted at a national and local level in the UK. The HALO report and best practice case studies were championed by the online HIV and hepatitis community, and HCP feedback via the Roche Service Development Specialist (SDS) team confirmed the utility of the report, and the intention of HCPs to use the case study learnings to redesign services to improve patient outcomes.

Judges’ comments

This report was very engagingly written and thoroughly and expertly researched. It had a smart and easy-to-navigate design and was fearless in its drive to highlight areas around hard-to-reach patients. All in all it was a very impressive look at a public health issue that is often ignored.
