Spoonful of Sugar

Summary of work

Spoonful of Sugar (SoS) is on a mission. A mission to improve health outcomes by helping people get the most from their medicines. Pharmaceutical companies invest a great deal of money in developing medicines. Healthcare professionals invest their time and expertise in prescribing the appropriate medicines for their patients. Yet despite all this investment, the World Health Organization estimates that approximately 50% of medicines prescribed for long-term illnesses are not taken as directed.

SoS is the only consultancy founded upon the leading-edge research in behavioural medicine of Professor Rob Horne, whose work has explored the patient perspective on illness and treatment over 20 years.

From its birth in 2011, SoS has been ahead of the curve in developing evidence-based patient support programmes. Programmes that are truly personalised to patients’ individual needs and are effective in making real, positive, lasting changes in how people feel and behave in relation to their medicines. 2014 was a pivotal year for SoS when it made a fundamental shift from a pure consultancy model to a delivery model.

It was a year of growing up for this fledgling company. The team grew, the client-base grew and over 10,000 patients benefited from the mission of SoS.
