Velindre NHS Trust and Roche - Working together to improve the pathway for early HER2 positive, breast cancer patients

by Roche Products

Summary of work

Velindre NHS Trust (South Wales) and Roche worked in partnership to develop a Non-Medical Prescriber (NMP) led virtual clinic for HER2 positive, early breast cancer patients.

This project has transformed the way that patients are managed at Velindre, improving the patient experience as well as saving them time and money in travel and parking.

Hospital resources are being more effectively and efficiently used enabling higher patient throughput across other services, eligible patients staying on therapy longer as well as providing direct cost savings to the hospital. Overall this successful partnership has delivered win, win, win for patients, Velindre and Roche alike.

Judges’ comments

Standing back to look at wastage and to reduce travelling times for patients, made for a powerful story. It was engaging at a meaningful level; it was meaningful to patients. It was a really valauble, worthwhile exercise that has life beyond this – it has longevity.
