Bringing lung cancer out of the shadows: The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation's early diagnosis campaign

by MHP Health Mandate for The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation

Summary of work

This far-reaching campaign galvanised the lung cancer community in tackling the devastatingly poor prognosis for lung cancer patients in the UK, securing policy changes to encourage earlier diagnosis of the disease.

The campaign overcame the stigma of lung cancer’s perception as a ‘smokers’ disease’, bringing to the forefront of public and political minds the urgent need for signs and symptoms to be caught earlier.

A small charity punching above its weight, The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation (RCLCF) used a series of ambitious tactics to ensure that lung cancer was afforded the attention it deserves.
