ePatCare®

by Boehringer Ingelheim with support from infill Kommunikation GmbH

Summary of work

ePatCare® is an innovative and unique interactive patient case tool, developed for Boehringer Ingelheim’s oncology franchise. Taking a virtual tour through the patient’s history and visiting different hospital departments, the user is able to follow the patient’s progress and learn about their management, investigations (including relevant test results, scans, and reports), and outcomes. ePatCare® enables interactive documentation, training, sharing and presentation of patient cases by physicians and trainees. ePatCare® is a highly effective educational method, with the capacity to improve patient treatment outcomes by capturing the dynamic use of technology and mobile devices. Busy, on-the-go physicians can utilise their iPads, Android tablets, Macs and PCs to create their own cases or view those contained in the ePatCare® patient case library. The ePatCare® library consists of anonymised, real-life cases supplied by experts worldwide. All information is stored in one convenient location and is accessible via the ePatCare® Cloud. ePatCare® is made for a new world of physicians and their devices, and is also available for free download on www.inOncology.com. ePatCare® has been highly praised by users, experts and societies. Two international oncology societies and several other indication areas are adapting and using it for their own patient cases.

Judges’ comments

We liked the smart use of digital, and were impressed with the way the patient cases worked and by how well received they were. The initiative had a broad scope, connecting different countries and they built on their insights into what this particular group of physicians would need to share best practice.
