Learning & Development Portal – SHINE

by Takeda UK Ltd with support from Interaction Marketing & PR

Summary of work

Takeda UK Ltd has grown significantly in recent years with the headcount trebling, 40% of employees having joined in the past two years, transforming the business.

Takeda considers itself unique in many ways, a wholly owned subsidiary of Japan's largest pharmaceutical company, the UK company likes to consider itself a 235-year-old start-up, the entrepreneurial spirit inspiring and empowering employees to take advantage of transformational opportunities for professional and personal growth.

Takeda has always looked beyond the conventional industry model and has pioneered new ways of collaborative working, allowing personnel to be key decision-makers running their regions in an autonomous environment. The skill mix required to support employees in this environment in both head office and field-based roles, is much greater than standard mandatory industry training requirements.

To encourage employees to focus on their own personal development, achieve their potential and create a culture of learning, a learning and development strategy called Shine was launched.

SHINE empowers employees to create bespoke learning plans to support both personal and professional development, via an easy access one-stop portal.

The response from employees has been outstanding and is helping Takeda shape its future and become a best in class learning organisation.

Judges’ comments

A nicely constructed, user-friendly learning portal which was aligned with Takeda’s culture. The judges liked the empowerment that underpins the platform and allows an individual to access the learning that matters most to them. Important to see health and well-being/resilience included.
