Tillotts Pharma UK recognised the lack of educational and professional development opportunities available for IBD nurses. A steering committee of influential IBD nurses and gastroenterologists was convened to help develop an innovative, multidimensional event that would improve IBD nurses’ skills, motivation and confidence, as well as recognising IBD nurses for their outstanding work. The LOGIC IBD Nurse Education and Recognition Event is a dual-aspect meeting, with a full day of education, followed by a recognition evening. Nurses are encouraged to submit a project for the LOGIC Richard Driscoll Award prior to the event, and the award is presented during the recognition evening.
The 2019 event was extremely successful, with increased attendance meaning more nurses accessed the benefits of LOGIC Education, including the extensive support network LOGIC provides. More projects were submitted for the Richard Driscoll Award, resulting in more nurses receiving recognition and increasing the sharing of best practice within the IBD nursing community. Winners have reported services being redesigned following their award, cascading good practice across Trusts to improve patient care.
This LOGIC event is supportive, collaborative, motivational and truly impacts on IBD nurse education, ultimately improving the quality of care of IBD patients within the NHS.
The entry from Tillotts Pharma was really strong across the board. The outcomes versus objectives were good and it was clear that this project is making a real difference.
