Virtual Reality Hub

by Teva
with support from earthware

Summary of work

One of the biggest challenges facing respiratory patients is misdiagnosis. Teva wanted to develop a unique and effective learning solution that upskills HCPs to effectively differentially diagnose asthma and COPD as well as more effectively manage long-term respiratory conditions such as severe asthma and cystic fibrosis (CF).

In just three months (to enable a launch at the British Thoracic Society (BTS) conference) Teva and earthware created a multisensory, immersive Virtual Reality (VR) experience. Utilising the latest VR gaming hardware (Oculus Quest), we developed a series of unique treatment rooms where HCPs can pick up and interact with diagnostic tools, such as spirometers and pulse oximeters, as well as case notes and treatment guidelines, to complete case studies.

Whilst providing much needed high-quality medical education, the ‘VR Respiratory Hub’ is something completely new and fun. The realism of the case study scenarios piques HCPs’ interest and allows them to hone their skills in a highly realistic yet safe environment, with no repercussions if they get it wrong.

The VR Hub was successfully launched at the BTS in December 2019, exceeding objectives and achieving fantastic customer feedback.
