Summary of work
The concept of an en route online Point of Care Testing service for the London Ambulance Service (LAS) would be for essential pathology tests to be performed within an LAS ambulance by paramedic staff and for the results to be available via an online portal within the A&E dept of the destination hospital.
Using on-line POCT devices within an Ambulance or ‘Single responder’ setting prior to entry to the hospital could help front line staff accelerate decision-making, reduce congestion and most importantly, improve patient waiting times in a busy A&E department or contribute to increasing ‘see, treat and discharge’ in the community thus reducing the burden on EDs.
Judges’ comments
The Online Diagnostic Ambulance demonstrated a very simple acknowledgement of an area of need. There were thorough objectives with a specific execution of how they made, and hope to continue to make, a difference.
