World of Knowledge Race

Summary of work

As Benjamin Franklin once said, “an investment in knowledge always pays the best interest” and that is why continuous learning and development is critical to an organisation’s success. Allergan Aesthetics, an AbbVie company, have been working to ensure all commercial employees across 22 global markets have in-depth and up-to-date knowledge of the products, clinical data and aesthetics environment to help them engage confidently with customers and create trusted partnerships in a highly competitive marketplace.

During lockdown, the team created ‘The World of Knowledge Race’, an innovative and interactive online training game developed to assess affiliates’ brand and clinical knowledge and identify areas of strength, and those requiring further support. At a time when employees may have felt isolated from one another, the game harnessed the power of collaboration and competition by pitching different countries against each other in a virtual hot air balloon race around the world. The race received overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants, and allowed visibility and consistency of knowledge and capabilities across the organisation.

Judges' comments

All the judges thought the World of Knowledge Race entry stood out as being really distinctive, it was innovative and showed a fresh approach to learning. It was an impressive, creative entry that identified different areas of learning and show-cased local capabilities. The learning had a significant scale as it was taken up by 2,600 employees and was a great way to engage during lockdown in a fun way. It was also great to see the support and buy-in from senior leaders.
