Gecko – A Voyage of Discovery for Digital Learners

Summary of work

In 2020, Galápagos assumed responsibility for the commercialisation of a new product in Europe. Sales teams needed to rapidly absorb product and therapy area knowledge but training materials were scattered across channels, with inconsistencies between countries and no single, navigable system.

A bespoke, interactive platform, Gecko, was developed to support individually-tailored learning journeys across markets with intuitive functionality. The platform was available 24/7 and compatible across device types to enable learners to access content how they wanted, when they wanted. Every user had a personalised My Learning Zone page, providing access to their individual learning courses, with content relating to their specific role. Further personalisation was offered through the ability to search for keywords, bookmark content, and take notes within the platform.

To ensure engagement, a creative theme, featuring an actual animated Gecko, was used throughout the platform branding and in a teaser campaign and launch film.

User feedback has been consistently positive with 250+ visits and three learners certified just four days after platform launch and 135 certified in the following six months. Additionally, following the pilot of the Gecko system within the initial franchise, another team at Galápagos has decided to host training content through Gecko.

The judges thought this entry from Galápagos and Makara Health was well tailored for individual learning journeys on an integrated platform. It had impressive objectives and business outcomes description. The strong reach and training certification made it stand out.
