Digital Intelligence roundup

Includes Sanofi’s diabetes dictionary, a new dosing calculator app from CSL Behring and a digital tip of the week

Welcome to the digital marketing roundup, which this week includes Sanofi's diabetes dictionary, a new dosing calculator app from CSL Behring, a new video-only patient support programme and Samsung's new Galaxy S health application.

There's also a link to the next in our Tip Of The Week series, which is produced in association with CDM and can be found in the Digital Handbook.

Tip of the week: One hit wonder

Samsung has launched a 'personal wellness application' for its Galaxy S III smartphone that collects users' health data to help them maintain a healthier lifestyle. The app is compatible with a number of healthcare sensors, such as the Lifescan Blood Glucose Meter, and data from them can be transferred automatically to the smartphone via Bluetooth or USB. Simon Stanford, vice president of telecommunications and networks at Samsung UK and Ireland, said: "S Health can provide real benefits in terms of tracking and monitoring health and wellness for our customers.” The S Health can be downloaded, in the UK, through Samsung's More Services pre-loaded application on the Galaxy SIII.

Sanofi is looking to expand the reach of the online diabetes dictionary it launched in April by offering patient bloggers an easy way of adding it to their blog or website. The pharma company said its new Diabetapedia widget was produced in response to requests from the diabetes online community. It will allow diabetes terms to be searched directly from their websites, with Diabetapedia definitions opening in a new window.

CSL Behring UK has launched a new dosing calculator for UK healthcare professionals who prescribe its treatment for primary immune deficiency disease Hizentra (human normal immunoglobulin, SCIg). Available for iPhones and smartphones running Google's Android software, the app calculates the volume of Hizentra to be infused based on the patient's weight and required weekly dosage. It's the company's second dosing calculator app to be launched in a week, following the recent debut of CSL's Beriplex app.

UK for-benefit start-up company iDoc has launched a new patient support programme to encourage healthcare professionals to provide video content for the public. It aims to provide patients with supporting information about their healthcare and offer patients, relatives and carers a way of observing consultations with contributing GPs, nurses, pharmacists and hospital specialists.iDoc's founder Steve Mott said that although there is an abundance of written material on the web there is little structured visual content that supports the patient journey. "If we get iDoc right we'll have a legacy of constantly updated reference material from the sources patients trust most," he added.

This week the Digital Intelligence blog also covered Pfizer's new portal for German healthcare professionals, WebMD's Medscape European expansion plans, Accenture's eHealth study and Manhattan Research on physician segmentation in digital marketing.
