Pharmaceutical Market Europe - July/August 2019

PME July/August

Patients vs Pharma
This is the situation which the industry dreads, but in 2019 has become a reality on several fronts: when patients see pharma not as a friend, but a foe. We speak to three high profile ‘patient activists’ who are challenging the industry (and governments, healthcare systems and traditional patient organisations) where access has become, in many cases, a matter of life and death. Our investigation yields many questions, but few obvious solutions
about how pharma should respond; but there’s no doubt that these patients are truly ‘empowered’, and won’t take no for an answer.

Communiqué Awards 2019
Congratulations to all the winners at the recent Communiqué Awards (run by PME’s parent company Datateam). The event highlighted some great innovative work across many different media and for pharma, NHS trusts, charities and public health organisations, all with the goal of improving health. Turn to p34 to see all the winners, and visit pmlive.com for full coverage of the categories.

Welcome Lucy!
The PME team is very pleased to welcome Lucy Parsons as our new Reporter. Lucy has hit the ground running this month, co-writing our cover feature and getting to grips with the ever-changing world of pharma and healthcare. She’ll be our eyes and ears, spotting the latest developments and trends from across the sector, so please contact her at lparsons@pmlive.com with any news and views you want to share.
