American Medical Association promotes the art and science of medicine and the betterment of public health. Founded in 1847 and incorporated in 1897, it is the largest association of physicians and medical students in the United States. The Association also publishes the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), which has the largest circulation of any weekly medical journal in the world.
The AMA Foundation provides approximately $1,000,000 annually in tuition assistance to financially needy students.
The AMA funds awareness projects about health literacy, provides community service, community health, and healthcare education events held by local medical societies and student chapters. The AMA also supports research funding for students and fellows around the U.S.
