The chief medical officer is a government officer who heads up medical services in the UK. There are four Chief Medical Officers (CMO) in the United Kingdom who are responsible for advising their respective governments on health related matters. The Chief Medical Officer is a qualified medical doctor who specialises is in public and community health but not the health of actual individuals. The CMO is one of the six chief officers who counsel the government in their six respective specialty.
