Emma Morton, health and science editor at UK newspaper The Sun, is to join the London healthcare team of communications firm Ruder Fin as media strategist.
Morton spent 13 years at The Sun, initially joining as a reporter before being promoted to her health position in 2007.
In her new role, she will provide consultancy for media campaigns across the division. She will also have a wider agency role, working with all teams to deliver integrated media campaigns.
Nick Leonard, UK managing director of Ruder Finn, said Morton's appointment demonstrated a “strengthening” of the company's London healthcare team.
“Having worked at probably the most high profile UK national daily she has true experience of where the media is going and how communications needs to be delivered,” he said.
“We have great media skills but having Emma as our media strategist provides us with a lead who can ensure we mine every media opportunity both on and off line, and ensure integration with other parts of the mix. Her contacts and strategic insight are second to none and will be a key differentiator for our business.”
Morton explained her decision to move from journalism into public relations, saying she was “bowled over by the agency's cutting edge approach - they excel at constructing clear channels of communication in a dynamic marketplace”.
