Doctors.net.uk, the largest and most active network of medical professionals in the UK, has launched a new iPhone application that provides independent healthcare news, and feeds from other top news sources such as Reuters and the BBC.
The free app also gives access to a library of exclusive Doctors.net.uk podcasts, a resource usually only available to fully accredited members of the network.
The development follows a dramatic increase in the numbers of doctors signing up for the mobile device over the past four months. The network is now recording some 4,000 users a month accessing services via an iPhone.
All Doctors.net.uk podcasts are available through the app, including the latest update on H1N1 from Professor David Salisbury, director of immunisation for the Department of Health and an interview with Professor Ian Gilmore, president of the Royal College of Physicians regarding the launch of the International Climate and Health Council.
Dr Tim Ringrose, managing director of medical communities at Doctors.net.uk, said: "This app is a response to the growing popularity of iPhones among doctors and it acknowledges the fact that doctors are increasingly using mobile devices to access news and educational content. However, this service is not just for doctors, it is provided free to anyone who wishes to use it."
The app can be found on Doctors.net.uk
