International director for Doctors.net.uk

Doctors.net.uk has announced the appointment of Gareth Thomas to the newly created role of international development director

Doctors.net.uk has announced the appointment of Gareth Thomas to the newly created role of international development director.

The appointment follows the organisation's expansion into the Nordic regions and emerging markets as the online network of doctors seeks to develop its international presence.

Thomas' previous role was vice president and head of Europe at Skila – a knowledge management solution company for the global life sciences industry. He has over 30 years experience in combined healthcare technology and service solutions, with senior management roles at both Cegedim and Dendrite.

In his new position, Thomas will seek to make Doctors.net.uk a viable prospect in core European pharmaceutical markets by the end of 2010.

Richard Adams, chief executive of the company, said: "Coming on the heels of recent partnership agreements in the Nordic and Iberian regions, Gareths brief is to further extend our reach across Europe and beyond."

Commenting on his new role, Thomas said: "The signals from the European market indicate that there is a huge opportunity to expand the Doctors.net.uk business."

Doctors.net.uk currently has over 170,000 members, and is available to UK-registered doctors in primary and secondary care.

It was a record year for the company in 2009 with 25 million unique web sessions during the year.
