KantarHealth reaches out to China

KantarHealth is expanding its National Health and Wellness Survey – the world's largest international self-reported patient database – into China

KantarHealth is expanding its National Health and Wellness Survey (NHWS) – the world's largest international self-reported patient database – into China. NHWS completed its fielding in China in September, adding more than 13,300 Chinese consumers to its database.

The expansion means that pharmaceutical and biotech companies can accurately size more than 100 therapeutic markets, as well as access detailed patient profiles and create publications approved by the Institutional Review Board. NHWS – which also covers the US, Europe and Japan – supports both Chinese-centric and cross-cultural analyses based on accurate patient-provided metrics.

Mike Kelly, CEO of KantarHealth's Consumer Health Sciences Practice said: "Projected to be the world's largest pharmaceutical market by 2050, China is a priority country for our customers – and we are responding to their need for greater insight into this key geography."

"The expansion of NHWS provides a valuable tool to help them measure opportunities; create segment-specific marketing strategies; understand diagnoses, treatment choices and outcomes; and identify patient demographics, compliance and satisfaction," Kelly added.

"Opportunities in China continue to grow," adds Scott Davies, General Manager of KantarHealth China. "Over the last five years, healthcare expenditures in China have more than doubled. In addition, China's goal is to provide healthcare coverage for 90 per cent of its population by 2011. By launching NHWS in China, we are helping our customers make the best decisions to support their success in this growing target market."

NHWS has added more than 161,000 patients to its database in 2009. Plans are also in place to continue driving growth by adding new emerging markets across Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America.

KantarHealth was formed by uniting Consumer Health Sciences, MattsonJack, TNS Healthcare and Ziment. It specialises in portfolio optimisation, market access, safety and outcomes, and brand and customer insights.
