Novartis Pharmaceuticals has appointed Subhanu Saxena as country pharma organisation head and country president. In this role, Subhanu will succeed Drummond Paris.

  • Novartis Pharmaceuticals has appointed Subhanu Saxena as country pharma organisation (CPO) head and country president. In this role, Subhanu will succeed Drummond Paris and report to Ludwig Hantson, head of region Europe. In his previous role, Subhanu was based in Basel as head of Novartis' global business franchise for infectious diseases.

  • The Healthcare team at Manning Selvage & Lee (MS&L) London has appointmented Rachel Allen and Claire Eldred as associate directors. Rachel brings with her eight years' ethical healthcare agency experience and most recently worked at Ruder Finn. She will be heading the Lilly ICOS portfolio on global business and MS&L. Claire also joins from Ruder Finn and brings experience in high profile accounts. She will be UK focused, leading the sanofi-aventis portfolio

  • Hilary Coles has joined HealthGain Solutions as associate director for its operations business. She joins from Shire Pharmaceuticals where she was involved in a variety of commercial, marketing and healthcare development roles, including NHS development manager. Hilary is a PhD-qualified life scientist and will have responsibility for the management of outsourced teams in her new position.

  • Jim Thomson, the former chief executive of Depression Alliance, has joined Innervate. Jim, who has already been working with the company as a council member of the new Primary Care Neurology Society, will bring together a new expert panel and drive the necessary secretariat services to help Innervate deliver a new mental health initiative.

  • Creative Lynx has appointed Jon Vernon as its new business development director. Prior to joining, Jon served for eight years at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. The appointment brings Jon's experience at Wyeth together with Creative Lynx's presence in pharmaceutical marketing.

  • ABI Europe has appointed James Krouse as director. He will direct business-to-business public relations programmes throughout Europe, as well as coordinate global marketing public relations efforts in New York and Singapore. He previously served as vice president in New York directing programmes in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. .

  • The McCallan group has appointed Michelle Sowden-Frost as senior sales manager. Michelle brings with her over 10 years' pharmaceutical sales and marketing experience, and most recently worked for Shire Pharmaceuticals as a marketing manager. Michelle has also held positions at Aventis, Hoechst Marion Roussell, Wyeth and in 2003 was awarded the prestigious title of Pharma Senior Marketer of the Year.

  • has appointed Justin Jewitt as non-executive director. His extensive expertise in the healthcare and services industry will help the strategic growth of as a forum for medical discussion, education and information. Prior to joining, he was CEO for Nestor Healthcare. He also currently holds non-executive directorships at Homeservice and K2 international staffing, and the role of external Professor of healthcare at the University of Glamorgan.

  • Phil Sheldon is relocating from the US to join Resolute Communications as a board director, following senior positions at Hill & Knowlton, Porter Novelli and Pharmacia. Most recently, he served as managing director of New York independent agency Lippe Taylor. He brings more than 25 years' experience in corporate and agency public relations.


  • Medpress, the publishers of Geriatric Medicine journal and Advanced Medical Publications, has appointed John Harrison as business development manager and Dawn Powell as editorial assistant. John joins from Newsquest and has experience in publishing roles specifically aimed at healthcare education. Dawn previously served at Traplet Publications, a Midlands-based publishing firm that specialises in leisure and hobby magazines.

  • Phil Deschamps has been promoted to president and CEO at GSW Worldwide. He joined the company in 1998. Prior to his former role as president, he served as executive vice president overseeing Prozac and several other CNS accounts for the agency. He has also played a key role in establishing GSW's presence in Europe in 2000. Previously, Phil spent 10 years in the marketing division at Bristol-Myers Squibb, most recently as director of marketing for neuroscience.

  • Porter Novelli has appointed a new European healthcare practice leader. Lee Tomkins, formerly managing director of Ruder Finn UK and executive vice president of global healthcare at Weber Shandwick, will join Porter Novelli's UK operation in May. Lee is currently a consultant to AstraZeneca on global public relations and issues management. Rebecca Hunt joins as a director from Roche, where she served as pharma public relations manager. Amanda Moulson joins as an associate director from Porter Novelli's Atlanta healthcare team. Melodie Robey, from Weber Shandwick, joins as a senior consultant.

  • Lilly has appointed Erin Huntington as a main board director for corporate affairs in the UK. Prior to her new role, Erin was acting director for Lilly's global government affairs operation in Washington DC, responsible for managing all trade, market access and intellectual property-related government affairs in Europe.  

  • Takeda's UK contract sales organisation partner, Ashfield Healthcare, has appointed Harjit Bahia as regional account director the Midlands/Black Country. He joins from Trinity Pharmaceuticals where he served as regional business manager for the midlands region. Chris Barker joins as regional account director in Leicestershire, Rutland and Northamptonshire. Previously, he worked at Janssen-Cilag were he was part of the business development team, working to improve mental health, then subsequently chronic pain services in the NHS. Carol Sutter joins as regional account director in NC London. She brings 20 years' experience and worked at Glaxo Pharmaceuticals working in health economics and collaborated with the NPA and Royal Pharmaceutical Society. She has published research about extended roles for community pharmacists and was also a non-executive director of the NCAA. Jo Houghton joins as regional account director in Cambridge, Norfolk & Suffolk. Previously, she worked in AstraZeneca's oncology division as a business development executive.

  • Virgo Health PR welcomes Anne Carroll as consumer director. Prior to joining Virgo, Anne spent over seven years at Cohn & Wolfe, most recently as director of Cohn & Wolfe's consumer health arm. Rachel Stratford joins as account executive. She has completed a graduate scheme where she gained experience in healthcare and consumer PR working for Ogilvy Healthcare PR and consumer agency Clarion Communications. Jennie Conway has been promoted from account manager to senior account manager. She joined Virgo over a year ago with three years' experience in healthcare PR and medical education.

  • Solexa has appointed Peter Lundberg as vice president and chief technical officer. He will be responsible for all research and development activities at the company's California location.

  • Seven Stones (formerly Brader Perryman) has made several new additions to its creative team. Lesley Seager (pictured) has worked in a mixture of healthcare and charity advertising for over 12 years. Most recently she was assistant creative director at Luxford Advertising. Robyn Clarke, formerly at Grey Healthcare, joins as a copywriter having previously worked in clinical practice for three years within adult psychology and psychiatry. Senior writer Sarah Young, who joins from Dewar Alexander, has extensive industry and agency experience including some 10 years in consumer healthcare R&D at SB. The newly named company has also unveiled a new identity together with a new structure to reflect what it calls a ìfundamental change in the direction of healthcare promotionsî.
