Boehringer Ingelheim has appointed Dr Andreas Barner as chairman of the board of managing directors. He will continue with his responsibilities for research, development and medicine. Dr Barner has doctorates in medicine and mathematics, and joined Boehringer in 1992 as head of the medicine division. In 1999 he became a member of the board of managing directors. |
GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has appointed Dan Troy as senior vice-president and general counsel. He will join the company on September 2, 2008, and was formerly chief counsel of the US Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), where he served as a primary liaison to the White House and US Department of Health and Human Services. Dan earned his law degree from the Columbia University School of Law and is currently a partner at the Washington law firm Sidley Austin LLP.
Dr Bert Tjeenk Willink has been appointed as the new member of the board responsible for marketing and sales at Boehringer Ingelheim. The new member of the board responsible for operations and human resources will be Dr Wolfram Carius, and Hubertus von Baumbach will become the member of the board responsible for finance and human resources in addition to being responsible for animal health.
David Whitehouse has joined Baxter Healthcare as renal business unit director. He spent 13 of his 20 years in the healthcare industry with Johnson & Johnson, working in the biopharmaceutical arena. He has experience in therapeutic areas such as oncology, haematology and renal disease areas. His most recent role was with Genzyme UK and Ireland.
Tony Zook has been appointed interim head of AstraZeneca's (AZ) biologics and business unit, MedImmune. He was previously CEO of AZ's North American business and executive vice-president of global marketing. Tony will hold this portfolio until a permanent successor can be chosen.
Marc Pritchard has been appointed global marketing officer at Procter & Gamble, replacing Jim Stengel who is retiring on October 31. Marc was previously president of strategy, productivity and growth and has been working alongside Stengel for the past two years. Jim will head-up a 'special project' for P&G until he leaves.
The PM Society has made two new appointments. Nick Rodger has become a member of the Society's committee. He has over 11 years' experience working in the UK and European healthcare markets across pharmaceuticals, healthcare and medical devices and is currently group project manager at Baxter Healthcare. Jon Vernon has also become a member of the PM Society committee and has over 14 years' experience in senior positions in the pharmaceutical arena, He is currently head of business development at OnMedica.
The PM Society has appointed Steve Clark, director of SC Marketing, as its new chairman. As an active committee member over the past few years, Steve has been involved in heading up a number of evening briefing meetings and has also worked with the Prescription Medicines Code of Practice Authority (PMCPA) on the annual review meetings on the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) Code of Practice.
Jaimie Brown has been appointed director in Hill & Knowlton's healthcare and wellbeing practice in the UK. He has 14 years' experience working in pharmaceutical sales and marketing; the last six of which were spent with Pfizer in New York, Europe and the UK.
Jennie Conway has been appointed as account director at Athena Medical PR. She has seven years' experience working in healthcare PR and medical education. Her most recent role prior to joining Athena was with Packer Forbes, where she worked primarily on oncology projects. Jennie also has experience of therapeutic areas such as cardiology and mental health.
Euro RSCG Life UK have appointed several account handlers to the Rx division. Reena Ondhia joins having previously worked at Seven Stones and Medicus. Amardeep Lally joins as senior account executive and was previously at Lane, Earl and Cox. Cat Melo has been appointed account executive and joins from Norris Lincoln. Clarissa De Marco has been appointed account executive.
Dr Lev Fedyniak has been appointed director of medical education at Wells Healthcare Communications and will provide strategic clinical insight to education programmes for the company's international clients. A qualified MD specialising in integrative family medicine, Lev has experience both as a clinician and as a medical communications professional. He is also an experienced writer and has published hundreds of articles and authored three books. His clinical experience is broad-based and includes internal medicine, pulmonology, and cardiovascular disease, with particular insight into oncology. In addition to this, he has worked in clinical trials management and medical-related marketing.
Red Door Communications has appointed Joanne Satchell as associate director to head up the company's medical education offering. She was previously director of Solaris Health where she helped grow the medical education business from four to 17 people and worked on projects or a number of blue chip pharmaceutical companies including GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), Shire and Bristol Myers Squibb. Before joining Solaris, Joanne spent four years working for Ogilvy Healthworld working across a number of UK and international accounts.
Swordfish Advertising has appointed Pete Thain as an account manager to help coordinate the pharmaceutical business of the agency. Pete has worked in healthcare marketing for seven years, most recently with Nutrica, where he helped develop campaigns in areas such as malnutrition, dementia and oncology.
ScopeMedical announced that Rebecca Mitchell has been appointed as a medical writing executive at the company's medical writing team based in Sevenoaks. Rebecca, who has a degree in natural sciences from the University of Cambridge, joined ScopeMedical in 2007 as an editorial assistant and will now assume a trainee medical writing role. Anika Jones has also joined the company as a medical writer. She has a PhD in neuroscience and four years' experience as a medical writer with the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). Having also worked at a medical communications agency, Anika brings a broad range of valuable and relevant experience to ScopeMedical's expanding editorial department.
Huntsworth Health (HH) has appointed Anita Seaford as senior account director. She has over 15 years' experience within the industry and has a wealth of sales and marketing experience with Abbott and Nycomed and on the agency side in both advertising and medical education. Cory Inglis has also joined HH as director of strategic brand planning. He was previously commercial director at Brand Health International and spent 10 years at Novartis in a variety of sales, key account management, market research and marketing positions.
Anton Abrahams has joined Solaris Health as account director. He has 12 years' medical communications experience across global and international markets. For the past two years, he worked for In Vivo Communications, Australia. Adam Pittard has joined as account manager, having previously worked for Innovex on a range of global accounts over the last three years. His core expertise is with meetings management and KOL development.
