Dr Luis Felipe Graterol, Bayer Schering Pharma 

Dr Luis Felipe Graterol has taken on the role of medical director at Bayer Schering Pharma (BSP) UK. He replaces Dr Peter Longthorne, who is retiring after working with Schering Healthcare and then BSP for nearly 30 years. Dr Graterol will head a medical department of over 100 people at BSP's head office in Newbury, Berkshire. He joined BSP in 1995 and has held a number of international medical roles. He started out working on clinical trials in Bayer SA Venezuela (South America) and was then promoted to associate medical director, before moving to Bayer's headquarters in Germany, and later to Canada, where he specialised in drug safety. In 2003, he moved to the UK and became head of drug surveillance. 


Phil Ledger, MJL Advertising Phil Ledger from MJL Advertising has joined the committee of the Pharmaceutical Marketing Society. He was a pharmaceutical rep, sales manager and product manager before moving into medical direct marketing and then on to MJL Advertising, where he is now chairman.

The MSI Consultancy has appointed John-Paul (JP) Carter as a consultant. He joins from SMT Consulting. A strong analyst, JP has worked in a joint venture with MSI, developing and delivering scenario-based strategy development. Previously, he studied medicine at Oxford.

Tony Dutta, Idis

Idis has appointed Tony Dutta to the position of general manager. He joined Idis in 2006 as senior vice president and director of operations. 

Athena has promoted Kimberley Durbin to senior account manager. She joined as an account manager in March 2008, having previously worked for LifeScan EMEA, a Johnson & Johnson company. She leads several medical education programmes on oncology, anti-infectives and cardiology.

Shelley Jackman, Sudler & Hennessey Shelley Jackman has been promoted to account director at Sudler & Hennessey London. She joined the company in February 2008 as a senior account manager, working on the Lyrica UK and Xalabrands UK accounts for Pfizer UK.


Ellie Blackburn is new managing director of Succinct Consulting, a company launched as a sister organisation to Succinct Healthcare Communications. She has over 15 years' experience of UK and International markets in specialist disease areas, most recently as an international marketing lead for Roche in Basel.

Daniel Conacher and Sarah Spain, Adventis HealthKatherine St Claire-Smith and Emily Dey, Adventis Health Adventis Health has promoted Daniel Conacher and Sarah Spain to advertising account managers, and Katherine St Claire-Smith and Emily Dey to med comms account directors. 

JYC Global has appointed Stu Wild as multimedia/web developer to develop innovative internal communication campaigns for sales and marketing teams. Jane Curtis has also been appointed as an account director. She has held senior positions in both event and account management during her eight years in the pharma industry.

Matthew Reid, Clair Hay, Arron O'Hare, Paula Banham and Dave Harris, PAN Advertising

PAN Advertising has made two new appointments and three senior promotions. Matthew Reid has joined as deputy creative director. His 16-year career spans McCann Erickson Manchester, Medicus, Paling Walters Targis and, most recently, Torre Lazur McCann Healthcare. Arron O'Hare has been promoted to creative development head and Dave Harris has been promoted to creative group head. Claire Hay has joined as senior account manager following three years at Publicis Life Brands. In addition, having been at PAN for five years, Paula Banham has been promoted to account director.

TBWA\PalingWalters has increased its headcount by 13 this year, taking the agency to 60-strong. The new members include (left to right): Rob Sampson, art director; Bethany Pringle, account manager; Anagha Shukla, medical writer; Sam MacMahon, designer; Rosemary Behan, account executive, Rachel Carey, accounts assistant; Clara Boerkamp, financial controller; Charlie Edmonds, account executive; Rachel Hood, medical writer; Mareike Jaensch, account executive; Julia Straker, associate planner; Indy Basra, production designer and Andy Baker (not in photo), medical writer.

Andy Vardé is new product development director at Owen Mumford. He is experienced in design, product development and project management including medical devices. Gail Saxon becomes HR manager. She comes from Prodrive and before that worked at Marconi. 

New communications company, Nude, has launched, with former DDB creative director, Jon Canning, and ex-Ogilvy senior designer, Nicola Kevin. Gary Reid is the founder and managing director.

Health Mandate has appointed Richard Davidson as a director. He joins from Cancer Research UK, where he was director of policy and public affairs. Rachel Rowson joins as account manager from Macmillan Cancer Support. Nadia Elm joins as a consultant from Insight Public Affairs and will work on health policy for key clients. Martha Burgess joins as a consultant following two years in public affairs roles at the NHS Confederation.

Six appointments have been made at ScopeMedical. Hazel Dodson has joined on a permanent basis as project administrator having been employed on a temporary basis for almost a year. Bettina Seri becomes medical writer. She holds a PhD in Neuroscience and post-doctoral experience undertaken at Harvard Medical School in Boston, US. Iain McDonald also joins as medical writer and will develop publications and event materials. He has a PhD in chemistry. Julia Thompson is senior account manager. She has a BSc in human sciences. Dan Lawrence becomes new media developer and holds a BSc in computer science. David Gallienne joins as editor. With a BA in philosophy and literature and an MA in aesthetics and visual arts, David has over 10 years' experience in editorial, publishing and marketing roles.

Euromedica has promoted Graham Dowsett, Carina McEntire and Hugues Petit to directors. Similarly, in the research team Tim Flynn has been promoted to senior researcher and Dimitri Frison-Roche to principal researcher.

Lorraine Lovell and Noreen Derham have joined the team at Iceberg Vision. Lorraine becomes client services manager and has over 12 years' pharmaceutical experience. Noreen joins as business development manager. She has over 20 years' business experience.
