Penn Pharma has announced the appointment of a new chief executive officer. Richard Yarwood joins the company with more than 33 years' experience in the pharmaceutical industry and will now manage the South Wales-headquartered business as it expands and strengthens its services and international presence. Richard has held senior positions including group president of sterile technologies at Catalent Pharma Solutions and president for Europe and Asia Pacific at Catalent, where he managed over 4,000 employees worldwide. A pharmacy graduate from Nottingham University, Richard gained both a PhD from Manchester University and an MBA from Warwick University before going on to pursue a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry.

PHOCUS has appointed Carlyle Ware as commercial director. Carlyle has a Bachelor's degree in nursing and an MBA from the Business School of Lausanne, along with experience in medical communications, both from small and large global agencies, and from the client side.

Cohn & Wolfe has made several staff change announcements. Terry Bradley has joined the London healthcare team as managing director, effective December 1, 2010. Terry joins from Ogilvy Healthworld, where he was senior business director responsible for business development for clients including Roche, BMS, Lundbeck and Boehringer Ingelheim. Additionally, Clare Lucker (pictured) has also joined the London healthcare team as senior director. Previously Clare worked for MS&L, where she was head of healthcare; prior to which she spent seven years at Axon Communications as head of PR. Mark Cater, who resigned as director of Cohn & Wolfe's EMEA region in October 2009, has returned to the firm as president of its New York office. Mark joins from Chamberlain Healthcare PR where he was managing director UK and Europe.

In addition to the appointment of a new CEO, Penn Pharma has appointed a new operations director, David Cooper, to its senior team. Previously general manager of oral technologies at Zydis, David brings extensive experience in global manufacturing, gained from Mylan Pharmaceuticals, formerly Merck Generics. Edward Rowland (pictured) also joins the company as head of operational analytical services. Previously at Wyeth Research, Edward has 15 years' experience in R&D and commercial operations, as well as in analytical development roles.

Fishawack Communications has appointed Dr Phillippa Curran as editorial director. Phillippa has seven years' experience in healthcare communications, building on three years of post-doctoral research at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in the US, and two years with the marketing team of a UK-based biotechnology company. Her most recent role was as scientific director of Caudex Medical.

RSA has made several key appointments in its global offices. International business development and recruitment specialist Zaki Sellam (pictured) has joined RSA Switzerland as a practice leader. In his previous role, Zaki built and headed up the life sciences division of Stamford Consultants in Basel. Michelle Bosshard joins RSA Switzerland as principal consultant from GSK Biologicals, where she was a recruitment business partner in manufacturing operations. Yildiz Biloglu joins RSA Germany as a principal executive search consultant. Yildiz has over six years' executive search experience, most recently as a senior consultant at Korn/Ferry Futurestep. Finally, Matthew Edwards has been promoted to associate consultant within RSA's UK commercial practice. Matthew joined the company in 2007 as a researcher specialising in medical search assignments.

Lundbeck team

Lundbeck has completed the formation of its UK senior management team. Steve Ferguson has taken on the new role of commercial director; Andy Davis joins as sales director; Andy Jones comes to the organisation as medical director; Helen Carberry has been appointed head of HR, and Amanda Badrick takes on the role of head of finance. They join managing director Steve Turley.

Sam Ogden has been appointed membership engagement account director at the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) with effect from January 10, 2011. Sam is currently head of in field effectiveness at Roche, where she has worked for the past ten years in a variety of senior sales, marketing and business unit head roles. Prior to joining Roche, Sam held commercial roles at AstraZeneca and SmithKline Beecham. The ABPI has also announced the appointment of Amanda Callaghan as director of corporate communications, with effect from January 31, 2011. Amanda is currently director of communications at the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), which she joined as senior parliamentary officer in 2001.

Universities and Science Minister David Willetts and Health Minister Lord Howe have announced the appointment of Chris Brinsmead as the government's Life Sciences Business Adviser. Past president of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI), Chris will support close and collaborative working on life sciences across Government and with key partners, providing independent advice and challenge to Government.

The Royal College of General Practitioners has appointed Neil Hunt as its new chief executive. Most recently, Neil was chief executive of the Alzheimer's Society. In 2002, he was seconded to the Home Office and then to the Department of Education, where he led several strategic initiatives. Prior to that he spent 11 years at the NSPCC in various senior roles. Neil will join the RCGP in January 2011, replacing current chief executive Hilary De Lyon.

Tim Herman has joined Cline Davis & Mann as business director, CDM London. Tim joins from Seven Stones, where he was managing director. Before this he was managing director of Ogilvy Healthworld and managing director of Bates Healthworld.

Nick Mason is joining the WeissComm Group (WCG) as an account associate from Chandler Chicco Agency (CCA). Prior to his position at CCA he worked at Ketchum and as a medical journalist, both on a freelance basis.

Creative Lynx has made a number of new appointments. Dan Prideaux and Claire Brocklehurst join as account managers; Dan from Huntsworth Health and Claire from Complete Medical Communications. Catherine Brassington and Camilla Concannon have been appointed as account executives, and Leanda Falcon joins as digital account director, bringing experience from Manchester agencies Love, The Chase and Reading Room.

Alto Marketing has appointed Adrienne Walder as account director and Paul Avery to the scientific writing and PR team. Adrienne has over 15 years' agency experience in both healthcare companies and the NHS. Paul recently completed his PhD and post-doctoral appointment at the University of Cambridge, and has experience in medical research investigating the biochemical factors associated with arthritis.

Twelve Thirty Eight has appointed Jeremy Duncan as director of strategy and services. Jeremy was previously managing director at strategic brand consultancy Radius, Clare Wade also joins Twelve Thirty Eight as research associate. Her background includes roles at Bartle Bogle Hegarty, HPI and at Hall Advertising in Edinburgh.

The Red Consultancy has expanded its specialist health team, Red Health, with two new hires. Account director Natalie Lewis joins from Reynolds MacKenzie and senior account executive Claire Nicholson joins from Virgo.

Woolley Pau has promoted senior copywriter Yvette Cumbers and senior art director Eric Houseknecht to the level of deputy creative director.

ApotheCom ScopeMedical has promoted Zdenka Husakova to project manager from the role of senior account executive; Louise Todd has been promoted from account executive to senior account executive, and Marion James, formerly medical writer, is now a senior medical writer.

Bedgebury Communications has appointed Tess Wulff as senior account director. Tess joins from Adventis Health.

Katie Langdon joins l!me Advertising as senior copywriter from her previous position at PAN Advertising.

David Noble, former managing director at Edelman, has launched a new company, Cambridge Healthcare Consulting, to address clients' needs in market access communications and stakeholder engagement.

CleverTouch has appointed Ilona Hitel as marketing director to drive social media and PR activity on behalf of its portfolio of B2B and B2C clients. Prior to joining CleverTouch Ilona spent 15 years building Lewis PR from a start-up to a global PR agency.

Virgo HEALTH has appointed Danielle James as account director in its HEALTH Education team. Danielle joins Virgo from Chameleon communications. The company has also added Kate Morrison as an account director to join the growing Ethical HEALTH PR team. Originally from Canada, Kate worked for Fleishman-Hilliard in Toronto and for a leading interactive agency on several health promotion campaigns in Halifax Nova Scotia.
