Martin Dawkins has been appointed by Bayer as managing director and country speaker for the UK and Ireland. He served formerly at Bayer HealthCare in Germany, where he headed up the European haematology and cardiology business. He replaces Lambert Courth who, having held the role for three and a half years, willl now lead the Schering acquisition and integration programme.
Following the unconditional takeover of Cambridge Antibody Technology (CAT) by AstraZeneca, CAT has named Dr Hamish Cameron as director and chief executive of CAT Limited. Hamish joins the company after holding a number of senior R&D roles at AstraZeneca.
Altana Pharma UK has appointed Geoff Bailey as finance director. Geoff joins the company from Innovex UK where he supported both the UK and European businesses. He has more than 15 years' financial experience in the pharma industry, where he began his career in 1991 with Glaxo, initially in the company's sales and marketing division. He also spent three years as finance director for Lorex Synth labo and, subsequently, Sanofi-Synth labo.
Cambridge Laboratories has appointed Dr John Padfield as chairman of the board. John has served as a non-executive director of the company since April 2005. He has 28 years' experience of the pharmaceutical and biotech sectors. g Phytopharm has appointed Sandy Morrison as a non-executive board director. Formerly CEO of Lipton, Sandy has over 20 years' experience in general and international management and, prior to this, held senior international roles at Unilever.
Professor Parveen Kumar has been appointed as the new president of the British Medical Association. Professor Kumar, a practising physician and gastroenterologist at Barts, Royal London and Homerton Hospitals, has combined a lifelong working commitment to the NHS with a distinguished academic career.
Duncan Learmouth has been appointed as senior vice president, corporate communications and community partnerships, following the departure of Jennie Younger who is joining Deutsche Bank. Duncan was formerly vice-president of investor relations at GSK where he has served since he joined in 1991.
Scott Smith has been hired as sales and marketing director at IDIS. He will focus on leading the development of IDIS' international business and will oversee international and European marketing and sales. He served formerly at In2Focus.
Red Door Communications has appointed Annabel Fiddian-Green to the board as director of global healthcare. Annabel was previously a director at Manning Selvage & Lee, during which time she was a team leader working on brands for sanofi-aventis, Lilly and Pfizer. In her new role, Annabel will be responsible for directing the current portfolio of global and pan-European client business.
Rachel Terry has joined Burson-Marsteller as a director of its healthcare team. Rachel, who joins from Solaris, will be leading a Lundbeck account across several areas, including schizophrenia and Parkinson's disease, plus new business. She has more than 17 years' experience of healthcare comms, having held senior roles at several big agencies.
Sudler & Hennessey has appointed Paul Kiernan as director of PR, Carwyn Jones as director of strategic planning and Helen Smith as director of medical education. Between them, the new recruits have more than 50 years' healthcare experience from Boots, BASF, Abbott, Lilly and GSK, and agency experience from PR and medical education firms.

The MSI Consultancy has appointed John Lyttle as a consultant. John worked previously at Chiron Vaccines as a global strategic brand manager responsible for new product portfolio management. Prior to this, he held a similar role focused on the development of cancer, anti-infective and allergy therapeutic vaccines at PowderJect. During a break from his industry career, he spent seven years in consultancy, both in the UK and the US, undertaking projects such as developing global strategic plans for a number of blue chip companies and advising the President of the European Society of Medical Oncology. In addition, the MSI Consultancy has appointed Cathy McCann as project co-ordinator. In her new role, she will be responsible for managing the progress of a wide variety of projects and providing administrative support.
Ruder Finn London has promoted Paul Gittins to associate director. He will continue to drive activities across global accounts, including Lundbeck mental health, and expand his UK role to cover the entire Novartis oncology UK portfolio. He joined the agency in 2005 as a freelance account director. Claire Holland has been promoted to account manager and Ashlea Reece has been promoted to senior account executive. In addition, Sarah Saunders and Lucy Twitchin have been appointed as account managers. Sarah joins from Australia's Cancer Council Victoria, and Lucy joins from a role as press and PR officer at the Royal Marsden Hospital.
Adrian Wheeler and Christopher Broadbent have launched a new PR agency called Agincourt Communications. Adrian, founder of Sterling PR, which became GCI UK when it was acquired by Grey Advertising, and Christopher, founder of several public relations firms, have launched Agincourt with the aim of solving business problems where reputation issues inhibit growth. The agency is offering a `no cure, no pay contract'.
Tonic Life Communications has hired three new staff: Lisa Marriott as senior account manager, Vicky Squires as senior account executive and Matt Foster as account executive. Lisa, who previously served at Ketchum, will work on global business for GSK and Procter & Gamble. Vicky, who joins from Biss Lancaster, will work on ethical and consumer health business for GSK and Reckitt Benckiser. Matt, who was previously at Edelman, will work on accounts for GSK, Janssen-Cilag and Roche.
Pope Woodhead and Associates has appointed Dr Swapu Banerjee to its team of consultants. Swapu joins as a senior consultant for risk management from Roche Pharmaceuticals where he worked in global drug safety.
MedeConnect, part of the Doctors.net.uk group, has appointed Peter Ward as managing director. Peter joined the company in 2002 as director of marketing and has been responsible for establishing commercial partnerships and accounts with leading companies. MedeConnect was established in September 2005 to bridge the gap between doctors and pharma firms.
New health PR agency, Just::, has hired Laura Chambers as consultant. Laura, who has worked previously for Chandler Chicco Agency as well as Red Door Communications, is the company's first new full-time member of staff.
Luke Willats has joined Burson-Marsteller as client executive. He served formerly at Ozone Communications as account executive on consumer media campaigns for OTC products. At BM, he will work with Lundbeck and Pfizer.
Christopher Burrows has been appointed as managing director at the UK healthcare practice of Russell Reynolds Associates, a global executive search and assessment firm. Christopher has more than 20 years' experience in the international executive search market working with pharma, lifesciences firms and medical devices clients.
