Recent high-profile moves in the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries Mover of the month is Guido Oelkers who has been appointed by Nycomed as the new executive vice-president of commercial operations.

Guido Oelkers 

Nycomed has appointed Guido Oelkers as the new executive vice-president of commercial operations. He will join the company in September 2008 and will be in charge of all commercial operations and area managers, with the exception of the CIS. Guido has been working in the pharma industry since 1984. He has a PhD in strategic management and previously worked as executive vice-president of DKSH and as CEO of Invida.


Simon Jose has been appointed general manager and senior vice-president of GlaxoSmithKline's (GSK) pharma business and operations in the UK. He joined GSK as a commercial trainee in 1986 and has worked in marketing, sales and business development. Prior to becoming general manager, Simon was vice-president of primary care pharmaceuticals.

Eli Lilly & Co has appointed Karim Bitar as president of European operations. He has over 12 years' experience and has held a variety of international roles. Most recently, Karim was general manager of Lilly.

Kirsty Walker has joined Red Door Communications as associate director. She was previously global brand manager for AstraZeneca's Crestor and has experience of consumer marketing communications, public affairs and crisis management and healthcare.

Medicus has announced several key appointments and changes. Athena Davies has been appointed as managing director. She has 20 years' marketing experience with GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and Innovex. Jo Oliver joins as group account director from McCann Healthcare in Melbourne and Big Blue. Rebecca Faber from Rainmaker Advertising and Eli Alcover from Paling Walters have been appointed as account managers. Lucinda Sian and Michelle Howie join the company as account executives and graduate Alicia Arthur joins as account coordinator. Three new copywriters have also been appointed to the team: Kylie Clayton, Dan Cuthill and Michael Brightley.

Kush Rach has been appointed as business development manager at Zaicom MMC. He has eight years' experience in the medical communications sector and worked on Roche products prior to joining Zaicom.

Jeremy Clark has joined Huntsworth Health from Cohn and Wolfe and will become managing director of its Marlow Office. Annabelle Sandeman has been promoted to divisional director medical communications and will lead UK and European accounts within the company's Chiswick office.

Carina Kelly has been appointed as the first account manager for Ireland at Cegedim Dendrite. She has seven years' experience in the pharma industry and previously worked for IMS.

Adventis Health has appointed Diana Ribeiro as junior account executive in its Affiniti division. She graduated from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine with a Masters Degree in medical microbiology and will work with clients including Roche, Leo and Eden Biodesign.

Data Intelligence has appointed Gareth Brown as service manager and will be responsible for implementing new sales and market research analytics. He joins the company from IMS where he was a senior consultant.

Elaine Bonnici has been appointed research manager at Healthcare Research Worldwide. She has four years' experience of international ad-hoc and syndicated teams, having worked for Synovate Healthcare.

Andrew Jenkins has joined Wells Healthcare Communications as director of client services at the company's second office in London. After training as a biochemist he spent nine years working in sales and marketing with leading pharma companies including Pasteur Merieux MSD.

Peter Flynn has joined Axon Communications as associate director. He was previously the head of media relations at Cancer Research UK and has five years' experience working in news production for BBC Radio.

Lucid has appointed Joanne Metcalf as senior account director. She has over 20 years' experience in pharmaceutical sales, having worked with MSD, Novartis and AZ. She has also worked at medical education agencies.

Claire Harper has been appointed senior research manger at Complete Medical Group's Evidence Research Unit. She joins from Wood Mackenzie's pharma biotech consulting team. She also worked for five years at IMS Health's pricing and reimbursement practice.

hsdcommunications, part of the Gyro International Group, has made several changes to its team. Justine Haddon joins as head of events and conferences. She began her career as a senior registered theatre nurse before gaining 10 years' experience with in-house healthcare marketing. Helena Symeou has been promoted to head of medical communications and HR manager and has been with the agency for over four years. Anne Allum has become the head of HR and has worked at the company for two years.

Chandler Chicco Companies (CCC) has launched Brandtectonics Europe, to help clients overcome their market access challenges. Former CCC managing director, Neil McGregor-Paterson, will head up the new company.

Tracey Henry and Neil Dickinson, have launched a new ad agency, Grace. Neil was the founder and managing director of Matthew Poppy Advertising and Tracey was a creative director at McCann, Medicus and Grey. She was chairman of HAAG for six years.

Nina Kelly, Jason Coull and Amber Fensome have joined Huntsworth Health. Nina has been appointed digital media account manager and has four years' experience of the healthcare industry. Jason joins from Novartis and has been appointed as account director. He has extensive experience of a wide range of therapeutic areas. Amber has been appointed as senior account manager and has 12 years' experience of the pharmaceutical industry. She joins from Roche.

Brand(x) has appointed Nivey Jeganathan as a senior account executive in PR and Aki Okazaki as an account executive in med ed. Nivey previously worked at Ketchum and has two years' experience in healthcare communications in GI, respiratory and CNS, with a special interest in tropical diseases. Aki has completed a PhD investigating antibiotic resistance.

Insight Research Group has made three appointments. Lee Gazey joins the company at director level. Lee has experience in both qualitative and quantitative studies from his recent tenures as head of Pharmaceutical Research Practice and head of International Healthcare Practice at two international research agencies. Andrew Forman has moved into the newly created position of marketing and sales director after several years heading up their specialist division Insight Associates. Julie Maudrich has been promoted to account manager where she continues her work on international healthcare research.

Lane Earl Cox has made three new appointments. Sara Baynes joins as account director from PAN Advertising, where she managed key accounts across a number of therapy areas including anaesthesia, cancer pain, COPD, menopause, migraine, RSV and sleep disorder. Sara was also previously a product manager at Servier and at Organon on a number of female contraception and HRT brands. Account manager Sophie Gibbs, also joins from PAN where she worked on brands for allergic rhinitis, COPD and Parkinson's, both in the UK and internationally. Account manager Uma Thaker, previously at Paling Walters, has worked in scientific research for organisations such as Argenta Discovery, GlaxoSmithKline and
the NHS.

Liz Williams, Becky Scott and Annabelle Boussault have joined the team at Succinct Healthcare Communications and Consultancy. Liz and Becky have been appointed medical education administrators. Annabelle joins as medical writer and has four years experience as a research scientist with various pharma companies.

Cegedim Strategic Data UK (CSD UK) wishes to clarify that newly appointed client service manager, Mark Slater joined the company from Organon.

Charlotte Binstead and Mani Reel have joined Red Health Communications. Mani joins from Munro & Forster and is a senior account executive. Charlotte previously worked with Hill and Knowlton's New York healthcare team and has been appointed as account director. She has experience of therapeutic areas including oncology and haematology.

HealthEd has recruited several new members to its team. Dan Barrett, who has six years' experience working with leading medical communications agencies, has been appointed senior account manager. Anne McGrail joins as commercial director and has 15 years' experience. Mike Kennedy has been appointed as studio manager and Maura Simms was hired as office administrator.

Double Helix Consulting has appointed three members to its team after relocating to new purpose built officers in London. Ben Shankland and Natalie Champness have both joined as project managers. Natalie is an experienced healthcare specialist and has worked for IMS Health, Synovate and, more recently, PSL Research. Ben joined from Global Insight and has expertise in sourcing and interpreting complex pricing, commercial and clinical data. Rebekah Tuner has also joined the team at Double Helix as research manager. She has spent six years working in pharmaceutical industry market research.
