Dr Giuseppe Di Benedetto has been appointed European medical director at Otsuka Pharmaceutical Europe

guiseppeDr Giuseppe Di Benedetto has been appointed European medical director at Otsuka Pharmaceutical Europe. Giuseppe, who joins from Altana Pharma UK where he was medical director, has over 13 years' experience in the pharmaceutical industry. He began his career as a medical adviser at Boehringer Ingelheim. Following this, he moved to Basel to work as senior medical adviser for international medical affairs at Ciba-Geigy. When the Swiss firm merged with Sandoz to create Novartis, Giuseppe became the international medical adviser at the company's central medical affairs group. After moving back to the UK to work as medical manager, Primary Care at Novartis, he joined Celltech as medical director.

alasdairArchstone Consulting has appointed Alasdair Mackintosh as head of its UK practice and to lead the European life sciences business. Alasdair was previously a vice president at CapGemini and the global leader of the firm's life sciences marketing and sales centre of excellence. He has acted as a consultant to many of the leading firms in the sector in the development of market strategies and marketing effectiveness initiatives.

Ashfield Healthcare has made two new appointments for Takeda UK. Mark Grimshaw and Nicky Tuer have joined the company as regional account directors for Surrey and Guildford, and Kent and Medway, respectively. Mark joins from a major telecoms company where he worked in a number of roles over 11 years. Prior to this, he worked at Allen & Hanburys where he was responsible for asthma products. Nicky joins from GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) where most recently she was responsible for GSK's portfolio of return on investment brands. Prior to this, Nicky was a brand manager at the company.

markMark Forbes Irving has joined Interlace Global as vice president of Wells Healthcare Communications. Mark, who has 20 years' experience in healthcare PR, medical education, policy change and pharma marketing, will be responsible for managing and developing Wells' European medical communications business. He spent 10 years with pharmaceutical firms before becoming a consultant, working as a director with Edelman, Porter Novelli and Excerpta Medica. For the last three years, he has been in the US where he was responsible for both US and international medical communications accounts at Health Learning Systems.

mike kanEdelman has hired Mike Kan as managing director of UK health. Mike brings with him 14 years' experience working in healthcare PR, including spells at Hill & Knowlton, Burson Marsteller, Shire and Cohn & Wolfe.

Gary Marvin has joined Innovex UK as a business development director. The appointment marks Gary's return to the company after a four-year absence during which time he worked for Aventis, progressing from a product manager to a divisional business manager. Gary first joined Innovex in 1999 and spent two years as a regional business manager.

Ian Miscampbell has joined T-cell measurement company, Oxford Immunotec as chief financial officer. Ian, who has 15 years' experience in senior financial positions, joins from Microscience Holdings where he was finance director. Previously, he was chief operating officer and finance director at KS Biomedix Holdings.

GE Healthcare has appointed Nimi Patel as European associate brand manager in its X-ray group. In her new role, Nimi will also be responsible for delivering and implementing core tactical and operational elements of the company's marketing plan across Europe. Nimi joins GE Healthcare from Pfizer UK where she was part of the sales organisation.

liz morrisInterim management specialist, the Harten Group, has hired Liz Morris as client manager. In her new role, Liz will be responsible for developing and maintaining consultant and client relationships. She has worked in the pharma industry for a number of years; most recently as business development director of pharmaceuticals and healthcare at Datamonitor in San Francisco.

Natasa Mihajlovic-Gojkovic has joined Quantum Medical Communications, part of Interlace Global, as director of pharmacovigilance and regulatory affairs. In her new role, Natasa will be responsible for developing the pharmacovigilance business. She began her career at Novartis as a senior clinical safety officer, after which she worked as a United Nations consultant implementing drug safety processes for the Bosnian generics industry.

Swordfish Advertising has hired Julian Hamilton-Smith to expand the pharmaceutical business of the agency. Julian has 20 years' experience working on both client and agency sides. He has built communication strategies for a diverse range of pharmaceutical products for companies including Astellas, Bayer, Lilly and Roche.

Kate Refson and Kirsty Munro have been promoted to senior account executives at hsdcommunications. In her new role, Kate will continue to work for the agency's consumer healthcare division. She will also be responsible for organising a series of sponsored derma-tological educational seminars in Ireland for the Primary Care Dermatology Society. Kirsty, who also works in the consumer healthcare division, will work with Profoot, Forest Laboratories and Bedfont.

Gabrielle Allen has joined ScopeMedical as a senior account manager. In her new role, Gabrielle will provide clients with effective medical and communications strategies. She joins the agency after relocating from Australia where she has spent the last three years working for Janssen-Cilag. Gabrielle worked as both a medical communications manager and medical writer, after completing her PhD at the University of New South Wales. ScopeMedical has also hired Felicity Vernet as office manager. Felicity joins the agency as an experienced administrator and will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the office.

Olivia Jones has joined 90TEN as account director. She joins from Media Strategy where she worked with the NHS Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia screening programme, creating a communications campaign aimed at HCPs.

david trimDavid Trim has joined Woolley Pau as studio manager. He has over 30 years' experience in production.

Neil Flash and Caroline Fielding have been promoted to deputy managing directors at Virgo Health PR. Neil, who has been with Virgo since 2003, has been instrumental in helping to construct the agency's operating infrastructure in terms of IT and financial systems. He currently directs the global programme for Symbicort and the UK programme for Zyprexa. Caroline, who joined Virgo last year, has worked on some of the agency's global accounts, most notably Bonviva, and has been involved in the development of its staff training programme. The agency has also appointed Meredith Guest as associate director. Meredith joins the agency from Lilly where she was a product communications adviser responsible for its neuroscience brands.
