Dr Rick Lones has joined Bristol-Myers Squibb as executive medical director for the UK. Dr Lones joins from AstraZeneca, where he has held a number of local, regional and global roles in medical affairs over the last 11 years. Most recently he was head of global medical affairs, responsible for teams based in the US, UK and Sweden. Prior to joining the pharmaceutical industry, Dr Lones worked as a GP for 10 years, including seven years as a medical officer in the Royal Air Force, and saw active service in Saudi Arabia during the first Gulf War.

Preclinical Oncology Services Limited (PRECOS), an oncology-focused pre-clinical research and development service, has appointed Dr Neil Rotherham as chairman of the board. Dr Rotherham has over 20 years' leadership experience in the life sciences, medical, pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical sectors. As co-founder and managing director of ClinPhone, Dr Rotherham led the company from a two-person start-up to a 500-person global venture that was listed on the London Stock Exchange. Prior to co-founding ClinPhone, Dr Rotherham worked on medicine development for Boots Pharmaceuticals.

PepTcell, a drug discovery group with an innovative mid- to late-stage portfolio, has appointed Manfred Scheske as chief executive officer of consumer health. Manfred joins from GSK, where he was president of the £2bn-strong European consumer healthcare business, and during his 25 years with the company had also previously been president of GSK's consumer healthcare business in Northern America..

Synovate Healthcare, the global specialist healthcare market research arm of Synovate, has appointed Paul Villa to the role of senior vice president of payer and market access research for its specialist healthcare research division. Paul joins from research-based consultancy Genactis, where he was vice president responsible for leading US pricing and reimbursement projects.

Karen Isherwood has returned to Pharma Marketing Academy to take up the role of client project director. Karen comes to Pharma Marketing Academy from Creative Lynx in Manchester, where she held a position in account management and was responsible for numerous pharmaceutical and healthcare related digital projects.

M:Communications, the financial communications agency, has appointed Amber Bielecka to its international healthcare practice. Amber joins M: from Citigate Dewe Rogerson where she worked in the pharma and biotech team for four years. Amber has previously worked with the BioIndustry Association, at the European Parliament in Brussels and the United States Senate in Washington, DC.

Medicus International has announced four new hires in its London office: James Whitmarsh has been hired as a management accountant, Luca Schirru has been appointed account executive, James Heywood has been made editorial executive and Fiona Murray-Zmijewski takes the position of medical writer.

Quantum Pharmaceutical has announced the appointment of its new commercial director Victoria Buyer. With a decade's relevant industry experience, Victoria has previously been responsible for the growth and development of a number of companies including GlaxoSmithKline and Alliance UniChem.

Peter Keen has joined Oval Medical Technologies as chairman of the board of directors. Peter is a chartered accountant with over 26 years' experience in technology businesses, primarily within the life sciences. He was part of the founding management team of Chiroscience Group and then a co-founder of the VC firm Merlin Biosciences, where he was also UK managing director. He is currently the senior independent director at Abcam, a non-executive director of Ark Therapeutics Group and the Biotechnology Growth Trust and the chairman of Exosect.

Hospira has named Svend Andersen as corporate vice president and president, Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), effective November 1, 2010. Most recently, Andersen served as executive vice president, Western Europe, at Actavis. Prior to joining Actavis, Andersen was vice president, general manager at Alpharma. He has also served as vice president, commercial operations, at Ferrosan, and worked as a business consultant to four start-up companies.

Myconostica, the medical diagnostic company developing and commercialising rapid and highly specific tests for life-threatening fungal infections, has appointed David Evans as independent non-executive director. As the former CFO of Shield Diagnostics, David guided the business through its IPO and then, as its CEO, through its merger with Axis Biochemical ASA to form Axis-Shield, a fully listed diagnostics company. He is currently chairman or non-executive director of a number of companies within the diagnostic and life science space.

John Buckley has been named global general manager of Performance Materials, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company, and has been elected president and CEO of ANGUS Chemical Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Dow. John has worked for the company for 25 years, joining Dow through the acquisition of Rohm and Haas in 2009. Most recently, he served as president of AgroFresh, a wholly owned subsidiary of Dow.

Celesio Manufacturer Solution Sales has appointed Peter Logan to the role of director of business development in the UK. He joins the Celesio Group from DHL Supply Chain, where he was previously VP business development Europe Healthcare. Peter also brings to his new role experience gained in 17 years of sales & management roles at Wyeth and Pfizer.

Integromics, a provider of IT solutions for life sciences in the areas of genomics and proteomics, has selected Dr Michael J McManus as president and CEO. Dr McManus has over 25 years of scientific software and business experience. Prior to joining Integromics, he led GenomeQuest's corporate marketing, strategic alliances, product marketing and product development efforts. Before joining GenomeQuest, Dr McManus served as vice president of business development for the BioSciences Group of Fujitsu Computer Systems.

Jeff Daniels and Peter Hudspeth have been appointed joint managing directors of Draftfcb Healthcare London, effective October 4, 2010. Jeff and Peter join from LEC\TBWA\WorldHealth, where Jeff had been creative director for three years and Peter was client services director. has announced four new appointments to its pharmaceutical team. Jo Bell has been appointed business development director, bringing with her 10 years of expertise from the pharmaceutical and medical devices sector. Joining Jo are Paul Kelly and Lizzie Evans, who have been appointed business development managers. Also joining the business as project manager is Phil Oldroyd.

Rainmaker Advertising has announced the appointment of Richard Gibbs to the senior management team. Richard, who has over 23 years' experience working with clients including Boehringer Ingelheim, Bristol-Myers Squibb and AstraZeneca, joins from Draftfcb Healthcare, where he was managing director.

PAN Advertising has made two new appointments and three promotions. Andisheh Thomson joins as account manager and Natalie Enniks joins as account executive. Andisheh previously worked at Brand X, has a PhD and good experience working across Global, pan-European and UK brands. Natalie joins PAN from Barts & The London NHS Trust and has a strong diagnostic and research background. Claire Hay has been promoted to account director, Natalie Tucker becomes account manager and Chloe McLeod-Zenonos becomes account executive.

Liberation Communications has appointed Laura Anderson as consultant and Danielle Guildford-Sharp as junior associate. Prior to joining Liberation on a permanent basis, Laura freelanced at a number of healthcare agencies including Weber Shandwick, Bell Pottinger and Porter Novelli, where she lead several UK and European PR and medical education programmes. Danielle recently graduated from Exeter University with a degree in psychology. At Liberation, she will be working across a number of the agency's accounts. 

Vineet Thapar has joined Digitas Health in London as SVP, group creative director. Vineet joined Digitas Health (USA) in May 2007, bringing with him 17 years of industry experience, gained while working at Razorfish, Oden and J. Walter Thompson. He is the recipient of multiple industry awards. While working in the US, Vineet has volunteered for organisations including AIGA, St Jude Children's Research Hospital and Al-Anon Friends and Family.

Market research agency Synovate has appointed Dr Nicole Oehlrich to the role of oncology business consultant for its specialist global oncology practice in the healthcare research division. Dr Oehlrich has worked with Merck Pharma as medical manager of oncology and IMS as product manager of oncology.
