Dr Marijn E Dekkers (left), current president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Thermo Fisher Scientific, will succeed Werner Wenning as CEO at Bayer from October 1, 2010. Dekkers will join the Bayer management board on January 1, 2010. He will also serve as interim CEO of Bayer HealthCare, succeeding Arthur J Higgins who will leave the company during the first half of 2010. Werner Baumann (right) will become chief financial officer (CFO) following the annual stockholders' meeting on April 30, 2010, when the present CFO, Klaus Kühn, takes early retirement. Baumann is currently a member of both the management board and executive committee of Bayer HealthCare. He will also join the Bayer management board on January 1, 2010.

 

Penn Pharma has appointed Karl Fry as director of quality. He joins from a quality management role at Patheon. During his 16-year pharmaceutical career, Karl has managed product quality for a range of clinical trial supply, packaging and pharmaceutical contract manufacturing companies. Kate Hawker and Charlotte Florence, previously at The Remedy, have set up Medea Communications, a boutique agency within the InforMed Direct group. Kate is former founder and managing director of The Remedy, while Charlotte is a former director there as well as an ex-GlaxoSmithKline clinical scientist.

Tim Herman, Seven Stones


Tim Herman has joined Seven Stones as managing director after six years running Ogilvy Healthworld Advertising. He has over 30 years' advertising experience, spanning the consumer and healthcare sectors, including 14 years of running his own agency.

 

Two senior vice president (SVP) positions have been filled at sanofi-aventis. Gilles Lhernould takes the position of SVP of corporate social responsibility, while Roberto Pucci becomes SVP of human resources, both effective from October 1, 2009. Gilles holds a diploma in pharmacy, and a masters degree in industrial pharmaceutics. Having been manufacturing supervisor at Laboratories Bruneau, he began his career with Sanofi at one of its subsidiaries in 1983. He has held a variety of roles with the company, most recently as SVP of human resources. Roberto was previously executive vice president, human resources, Fiat Group. He has a law degree from the University of Lausanne, Switzerland. He started his career in 1985 at Coopers & Lybrand in Switzerland as an external auditor and then joined Hewlett-Packard, where he held various human resources positions. In 2005 he moved to the US to join Fiat Group subsidiary, Case New Holland, as SVP human resources.

Fleishman-Hillard Group has appointed Marilyn Ewan as an account director in its healthcare division, The Remedy. Marilyn has worked in various healthcare communication agencies in the fields of medical education, PR and advertising. She is a qualified pharmacist with a doctorate in pharmacy practice research. Previously, she was a manager at Datapharm Communications.

 

Michael Flood has joined TVF Communications as an account executive. Michael was previously a producer for an event management agency and has a degree in social and political sciences from Cambridge University.

Interlace Global Group has appointed five new staff to work for twin companies, Wells Healthcare and Interlace Global Communications. Alex Monaghan has joined the Interlace Global Group as director client services. He has 20 years' experience in marketing and medical education, particularly for oncology products. Dr Tania Lima joins Interlace Global Group as a medical writer. She holds a masters degree in immunology and a PhD in microbiology. Dr Saira Ansari joins Wells Healthcare as a medical writer. She holds a PhD and has five years''experience as a research fellow. Rashme Cardoza joins Wells Healthcare as assistant account manager. She has a masters degree in biotechnology and developmental cell biology and has seven years' experience of research and business development. Lisa Barton joins Interlace Global as a travel administration assistant and holds a degree in events management.

Expansion of the medical communications business at Springer Healthcare Communications has resulted in seven new appointments:  Jackie Jones (account director), Katy Etchells (account manager), Lucy Broderick (project assistant), Emma Jolly (editorial co-ordinator), Richard Fisher (senior medical writer), Clare Shepherd (editorial co-ordinator) and Rebecca Woodley-Jones (sales executive).

Clear has made Charlotte Highfield its UK managing director. She will lead the UK board. Previously a team director, she replaces Alan King who moves to open the Australian office in Sydney. Simon Clough becomes team director and will sit on the UK board. Finance director, Aine McLaughin, has also been promoted to the board.

Penny Johnson has taken on the role of industry liaison manager at the Manchester Biomedical Research Centre. She joins the team from Intercytex where she was director of research. She holds a PhD from the University of Toronto and completed two postdoctoral fellowships in cell research at the University of Manchester.

Lois Hall is the new UK chief executive officer at Ogilvy Healthworld. She has over 20 years' experience in healthcare communications and has held senior positions within the group. Matt de Gruchy is to take the newly created role of client service director for the UK Group from his current position as managing director of OgilvyHealthPR. De Gruchy has been with Ogilvy for over 10 years. Antonia Betts takes over his former role. She has been director of operations for several years and was previously MD of Shire Health International.

Matt Macland has joined VCCP Health as creative director, working alongside Brett O'Connor. Matt was formerly creative director at Torre Lazur McCann, where he worked for almost nine years, winning many top creative awards and gaining experience in several therapeutic areas. Matt is best known for his creative work on Seretide, Nurofen for Kids and Risperdal Consta.

medeConnect Healthcare Insight has adopted an account team structure and appointed two client services directors to head the teams. They are Nicky Richards, who was previously commercial director of Cegedim Strategic Data, and Neil Reynolds, formerly medeConnect's research director. Nicky was founding partner of CompuFile, which was purchased by Cegedim in 2005.

Sarah Butterworth has joined ERL Medicom as director. She transferred from Euro RSCG Life Catapult, where she ran the medical education practice. With 16 years' experience in healthcare communications, she was a healthcare marketing consultant for four years at Grey, Ogilvy, ivillage, and Euro after leaving Current Medical Directions, New York, where she spent her first 12 agency years. Sarah Lucas has also joined the team as an account executive following her recent graduation from the University of Southampton with a BSc in biochemistry. Sarah will work across a variety of therapy areas including type 2 diabetes, smoking cessation and depression.
