AstraZeneca has announced the appointment of David Brennan as chief executive with effect from 1 January 2006

David BrennanAstraZeneca has announced the appointment of David Brennan as chief executive with effect from 1 January 2006. Mr Brennan, currently an executive director and executive vice president of the company's US operations, will take over from Sir Tom McKillop. He has over 30 years' experience in the pharmaceutical industry.

Jon DalyJon Daly has been appointed marketing manager of Grünenthal UK and Ireland. He joined the company in December 2004 as commercial manager covering the southern region of the UK . Before joining the company, he worked in the commercial department of Janssen-Cilag.

Eisai has appointed Andrew Day to the newly created position of European public relations director. Andrew will be responsible for corporate communications and issues management across Europe, as well as providing strategic product communications support to Eisai's European affiliates. For the past eight years he has run his own healthcare communications firm working with a number of pharma companies.

Activity Benchmarking has hired Chris Birch as medical services manager. Chris was previously an account director at Profiad. He will be responsible for the CRA benchmarking service which monitors clinical operations resources, patient recruitment and time optimisation.

The Pharmaceutical Marketing Society has made two changes: Sandy Thomson has been elected as chairman, taking over from Mike Gale who chaired the committee for the past three years. Sandy is currently company board director at Avenue HKM. Matt Coleman has become the latest member of the PM Society committee. He has worked at Link Pharmaceuticals for over two years as marketing manager. Prior to that he held senior product manager positions at Elan, Takeda and Novo Nordisk.

Nuvis Europe has appointed Khurrum Saleem as managing director. Khurrum served formerly as director of business development for Europe at Adelphi Communications. In his new role, he will be responsible for establishing medical communications and education services at domestic and international levels. The firm has also appointed Christopher Allen as business development manager. Chris has worked previously for Darwin Grey and Wave.

IDIS has appointed Jean-Marc Gautier and Maxine Hamilton as international sales manager and customer services manager respectively. Jean-Marc worked previously as European co-director for sales and marketing in the industrial hygiene and biotechnological sector. Maxine joins IDIS following a career in the IT and recruitment industries focusing on client services and development.

Mark Holliday has joined Cegedim UK as customer services director. He will be responsible for managing existing clients who use the company's electronic territory management system. Mark was formerly at Solvay Pharmaceuticals.

Northbank Communications has made three promotions and a new addition to its London team: Ashley Lilley moves up to junior account manager, Rowan Minnion is promoted to senior account executive and Jodi Lewis moves up to account executive. Hannah Carter joins as account administrator to provide additional support. 

Pharmaceutical Marketing Ltd has made three recent editorial appointments: Gareth Carpenter joins as assistant editor of both Pharmaceutical Marketing and Pharmaceutical Marketing Europe. Gareth has six years of experience in business publishing and has been a regular contributor to both magazines, having worked as a freelance writer in Italy for three years. Colin Jennings joins as staff writer. With a psychology degree from Trinity College, Dublin, he joined the company via the Press Association and freelance travel and music writing. Gemma Shakespeare joins as editorial assistant. She graduated recently from the University of Essex with an English Literature degree; this is her first full-time editorial post.

Interim management and recruitment specialist the Harten Group has named Kerry Carter as PA to the Group & Managing Director. She has held several administrative and recruitment positions since graduating from Huddersfield University.

Independent consultants WestawayGillis has made five new appointments: Pharmacists David Clamp and Hetal Patel join as research associates. Both have worked previously for Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Judith Sharp joins as associate management consultant; her previous role as a primary care pharmacist led to her appointment as the first primary care-based teacher practitioner in the UK. Rhian Fisher has been appointed CSS consultant. She was previously at event management company Martiz. Finally, Lynne Johnston joins as finance assistant, having worked formerly in a property finance consultancy.

Hanson Zandi has appointed Nick Peperell as director of multimedia. Nick joins with seven years' experience in digital media and will be responsible for managing a range of multimedia services and new media business development.

Resourcing services provider RSA has appointed Jo-Ann Lyon as a consultant in the interim management division based at the UK headquarters in Hatfield and Tom Winter as a principal consultant in the Frankfurt office.

Adelphi International Research has hired two project directors: Hilary Ellis brings experience in conducting qualitative and quantitative international pharmaceutical marketing research while Duncan Swan joins with 17 years of consumer market research experience.

Adama Ibrahim has joined the account handling team at Langland, becoming account manager. She served formerly with the West London Cancer Research Network as a clinical trial coordinator.

VB Communications has made two new appointments: Bruce Ritchie has been named as the director of business development for VB itself and sister company Jago Pearce. After 11 years working for the marketing departments of several blue-chip companies, Bruce moved to the Huntsworth Group in a strategic role spanning the whole group and its integrated offering. Sarah Philp joins as account director, having worked previously at Langland and O&M.

Rainmaker has appointed Rebecca Faber as account executive. Rebecca has previous experience in biochemistry and medical publishing.

Victoria Wade has become account director at healthcare marketing research agency, Insight Research Group.

Kelly Unsworth will manage the CHASE graduate recruitment programme for the UK. Set up in 2001, CHASE provides graduates to the pharmaceutical industry.

Resolute Communications has made eight new appointments: Lisa O'Sullivan has joined as senior account manager. Formerly at Shire Health International, she has worked on AstraZeneca's Seroquel and Faslodex. Sarah Swift, former associate director of GCI's healthcare practice, joins the agency as associate director. Dr Annlouise Graham and Eleanor Heightman have been appointed senior account executives. Clare Pressney and Stephen Craycraft have been promoted to account executives, and Claire Cannon and Claire Woods have been appointed as junior account executives.
