| Astellas Pharma Europe has appointed Dr Christopher Thomson as executive director of its new European oncology unit. He takes up the newly created position after three years as director of business development. Dr Thomson joined Astellas in 2008 from IMS Health where he was group marketing director for medical and patient information, Europe Middle East and Africa. He started his career in the pharmaceutical industry as a sales representative with Schwarz Pharmaceuticals before moving on to hold senior positions within Bayer.

IDEA Pharma has added project managers Suzanne Axford-Bryars and Lidia Markovic to its team. Axford-Bryars has 10 years of consultancy experience. Having previously worked for IDEA, she left to experience working in Italy for a medical education and healthcare advertising firm. Markovic joined IDEA from Movianto UK, part of the Celesio Group, where she acted as key account manager.

Sammy Harfield has been appointed as a senior medical writer. Harfield has six years of agency experience, having previously worked for Ogilvy 4D and Caudex. Delenex Therapeutics has appointed Dr Thomas Jung as chief medical officer. Previously, Jung led research work in immunology at the Novartis Research Institute in Vienna, Austria, then spent nine years at Novartis in Basel. He was part of the senior leadership team at the Novartis Institute for Biomedical Research (NIBR), most recently as EU head of translational medicine.
Asterand has announced that John Stchur has decided to step down as chief financial officer, with immediate effect. Stchur has been responsible for leading the company financially throughout its growth cycle, most recently negotiating the successful acquisition of BioSeek. Asterand has retained Alan Fishman as the interim CFO.
Ipsen has added executive vice-president, general counsel Nathalie Joannes and executive vice-president, chief financial officer Susheel Surpal to its executive committee. Joannes, a Belgian national, has previously held roles at Genzyme, Monsanto Company and Serono International. Meanwhile Susheel Surpal, a British national, has previously worked for LABCO, Sodexo, the BIC group and the BEL group.
Ketchum has completed its management transition in Germany. Timo Sieg, managing director in Germany and chief executive of Europe, will leave the firm at the end of 2011. Dirk Popp will continue in his role as chief executive of Germany. David Gallagher assumes the position of CEO of Ketchum Pleon, the firm's European operation, with immediate effect.
Patient Intelligence Panel (PIP) has appointed Herman Rutgers and Ben Tegelaars as directors. Rutgers, the company's new chairman, has 30 years' experience of the health, wellness and pharmaceutical industries. Meanwhile Tegelaars has joined the firm as business development director. Richard Thornton will also support the board in an advisory capacity as a veteran of the online market research industry.
