Social media win for Boehringer at PM Society Digital Awards

Sees off competition from AbbVie, Bayer, Novartis and Pfizer

Boehringer Ingelheim PM Society Digital Awards 2016 social media 

Boehringer Ingelheim picked up the Social Media Pharma Company of the Year at the PM Society's Digital Awards 2016 at The Brewery in London this week.

Seeing off competition from AbbVie, Bayer, Novartis and Pfizer the firm was rewarded for its influence and engagement, based on analysis by Symplur Signals.

Symplur - best known for its healthcare hashtags project - analysed online conversations in 2015 around the top 10 diseases with the highest mortality rates, in the process collecting 606 million healthcare tweets. 

Agency-side, emotive and Langland led the field, taking home three Gold awards apiece, followed by McCann Manchester with a brace of Golds.

emotive was rewarded for its education and events work for Edwards Lifesciences' Virtual Valve virtual reality medical education project and for the EYLEA Commissioning Toolkit for Bayer UK.

Chris Edmonds, emotive's managing director, said: “The team performance on these projects was fantastic, a true testament to the way we work in close partnership with our European clients to make our unique blend of science technology work towards delivering better outcomes. 

“Both of these projects involved the innovative use of technology and delivered high engagement and effectiveness on their key measures.”

For Langland the Golds came thanks to its spoof 'STI Detection Unit' campaign Sniffers for Randox Laboratories, which received social media and film awards, and the JINARC MoA for Otsuka.

Meanwhile, McCann Manchester's two Golds both came from work for Shire, with The Trouble With Dragons and the Evanse Adult Brand Tool App winning the multichannel campaign and pharma corporate communications and internal digital initiative prizes respectively.

Rachel Farrow co-chair at the PM Society and its Digital Awards lead, said: “The Digital Awards is in its seventh year and continues to celebrate the innovation, quality and results achieved by digital communications within the healthcare arena.”
