the annual Pharmaceutical Marketing Societyís Advertising Awards on January 25, at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London. Now in its 22nd year, the event attracted over 1,000 attendees and a host of entries into 17 award categories. Three new categories were added this year ñ digital media, international core campaign, and the patient information campaign. The new digital award was particularly well supported, prompting organisers to split it into two sub-awards for interactive programmes and for films.
PM Society Awards Committee chairman, Neil Smith, opened the day with a dedication to "absent friends" ñ those highly regarded members of the industry who passed away during 2007. He then handed over to stand-up comedian and presenter Jimmy Carr, who hosted the event.
All award recipients deserve commendation for their successes, but Paling Walters must be singled out for the remarkable achievement of receiving recognition both from agencies and GPs for its Xenical "Lethal Obsession" campaign. The agency also won the best hospital journal advertisement for Xeloda.
Special mention must also be made of Woolley Pau who took home four awards for its outstanding Duac campaign on behalf of Stiefel Laboratories.
The chosen charity for this yearís event was the Joshua Foundation, which provides holidays and experiences for children and their families where the child is suffering from terminal cancer.
Founder of the charity, Sarah Cornelius, stated that the proceeds from the PM Society Awards would go towards ensuring that children suffering from terminal cancer experience many more important "milestone events" in their lives.
The Foundation was delighted to received an impressive £15,000 in funds raised.
