‘Moving during a global pandemic was the best professional decision I could have made’

Below we hear from Helena Whelan about her experiences of moving jobs during a Global pandemic and why she chose to return to Nucleus Global.

Please introduce yourself

“I have a PhD in molecular nutrition and metabolomics from University College Dublin and started my career in medical communications in 2016. I originally worked within Nucleus Global from 2016 to 2019 and returned in October 2020 as an Account Director.”

What prompted you to move to a new agency at this time?

“It’s a really exciting time for medical communications. Restrictions on movement and remote working have meant that we, as an industry, have had to pivot quickly to support our clients, creating a wealth of opportunities in fantastic agencies. This time has given me the opportunity to identify the best fit for me in terms of agency, therapy area and team both professionally and personally.”

Why did you choose to return to Nucleus Global?

“I had the benefit of working at Nucleus Global previously so knew that it was a great place to work and culturally was what I was looking for. On a practical level, Nucleus Global is such a strong and respected company, any nerves about job stability during this time simply weren’t a concern.”

What’s been your experience of onboarding to Nucleus Global in a remote/virtual setting?

“Remote onboarding is a little strange of course! The central support team have been incredible in getting me set up; from HR calls during the week prior to starting as to what to expect, to texts from IT Support to let me know what time my laptop would arrive. Then all the usual onboarding from a company induction and team level happened as it normally would…. just in a virtual setting.”

What advice do you have for others thinking about a career move to a new agency at this time?

“If you are thinking about making a move there is no reason to put it off. Take some time to define what your ideal next role would look like and what is ultimately going to make you happiest. Then go for it!”
