Brought to the UK by Dementia Care Matters, a leading dementia
care organisation, and supported by sponsors Pegasus, Bupa and Brunelcare, ‘Naomi's Flight’ combines theatrical
storytelling with daring aerial acrobatics on three suspended metal sculptures
to present an intensely personal drama and often humorous perspective of a
family coping with age, diabetes, and dementia. Performer, Mara Neimanis, draws
on her own experience of her mother's diabetes and dementia and her 81 year old
father's challenges as the primary caregiver for her mother, to reveal the
enduring bonds and obligations of love as well as a world that is upside down
and inside out.
The first performance of ‘Naomi’s
Flight’ forms part of the 9th UK
Dementia Congress, the largest annual dementia-focused event in the UK
& Europe, which is this year being hosted in Brighton. Further public
performances are also being held during the course of this week.
Jo Spadaccino, Director at Pegasus, commented: “We are delighted to be
sponsoring such a moving and educational performance, which highlights the
challenges both dementia patients and carers are facing every day.
Our support of the show has been borne out of
a shared desire to shine a light on what is fast becoming the biggest health
and care problem of a generation, through impactful and creative communications
techniques. ”
