A Magical Future – A year on from the graduate scheme

- PMLiVE

Emilie discusses her #LucidLife journey during the past year, after joining Lucid through their graduate scheme.

The summer after I graduated from university, I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what my future would hold. I knew I wanted to use my scientific background, but beyond that I wasn’t sure.

Going through the application process for Lucid’s inaugural graduate scheme opened my eyes to an industry I knew little about – I researched the world of Big Pharma, Med Comms and Med Ed, and tried to get an idea of how they all linked together. Even so, walking into the office on my first day at Lucid, I had no idea what to expect.

I was greeted with a talented and passionate group of individuals with whom I would spend the next 8 weeks going through an intensive and educational training programme. We were introduced to strategic brand planning, editing, account management, medical writing and much more. This was followed by two placements to give hands-on experience across the Lucid group family of companies.

Over the last year-and-a-bit, I’ve worked on upwards of 70 projects, across three teams. I’ve worked on both promotional and non-promotional materials, brainstormed programme names, written and received countless emails (my inbox is currently sitting at over 10,000 emails, although thankfully I didn’t have to respond to all of those!) and made more PowerPoint slides than I ever thought I would. The teams I have been placed with have unanimously supported and furthered my development, pushing me out of my comfort zone and helping me to achieve things well beyond my expectations.

From my first day at Lucid, my expectations – of myself and of Lucid – have been challenged and surpassed. I have been given incredible opportunities to learn and to develop, and have worked with and been supported by truly wonderful people along the way.

Lucid’s third cohort of graduates have just started their eight weeks of training, and I don’t doubt they’re having the same feelings I did when I first joined. Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed as I was, I felt full of questions and ideas and had no clue what the months following would bring.

My “graduate life” at Lucid finished in September, when I took up the role of an Associate Medical Writer, in a new team full of new faces and new clients. And now a year and some down the line, I still couldn’t begin to tell you what my future holds here at Lucid, but it will certainly be magical.
