Say Comms Haemophilia Walk-a-Thon

What is this about a walk on the wild side?Team Say is having a Wimbledon walk-a-thon on Friday 22nd April. We are raising money for The Haemophilia Society the only charity for the UK’s blood disorder community.

Why 22nd April?

We didn’t select it because it’s the 113th day of the year or because it’s the 47th anniversary of Robin Knox-Johnston’s solo non-stop sail around the world. We have chosen it because Friday 22nd falls between two important April occasions. Sunday 17th April is World Haemophilia Day a very important day for the blood disorder community around the world. Sunday 24th April is the London Marathon a great occasion for runners and fundraisers alike.

What’s the plan?

We’re hoping for a super sunny Friday lunchtime when at least 13 of Team Say’s most experienced walkers
(and as many more as wish to join) will assemble. The aim is for everyone to complete a 2 mile walk through Wimbledon, so the combined total adds to 26.2 miles. This is to show solidarity with the intrepid souls who will be running the marathon on Sunday. Our aim is for every participant to be wearing at least one item of red clothing. Red trousers, socks, scarves and if it’s raining; Macintoshes are all actively encouraged.

Why Walking?

The benefits of walking are vast, it’s free and as NHS Choices point out ‘has been shown to reduce the risk of chronic illnesses, such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, asthma, stroke and some cancers.’ That’s quite a list of benefits for something so simple! History is littered with great names who have sung the praises of walking and its powerful effect on the mind and body; so it’s got to be worth doing.

You make a good point but name some names and what they said?

“Me thinks that the moment my legs begin to move, my thoughts begin to flow.” –   Henry David Thoreau
“It is impossible to walk rapidly and be unhappy.” –   Mother Theresa
“I have two doctors, my left leg and my right.” –   G. M. Trevelyan
“All truly great thoughts are conceived by walking.” –   Friedrich Nietzsche

If you’ve got a mental block your next eureka moment could be when you take a casual stroll!

Where can I donate?

You can donate to The Haemophilia Society via Say’s fundraising pagehttp://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/SayCommunications

We’re aiming to raise £500 so please give generously to a vital charity for the UK’s blood disorder community.

“May you always walk in sunshine.
May you never want for more.
May Irish angels rest their wings right beside your door.”
