NEWS RELEASE

2018 HSJ Awards Finalists Announced

The finalists for the 2018 HSJ Awards – the world’s largest healthcare awards programme – have been announced today, following an exhaustive judging programme that included an additional stage to provide a new level of rigour, checks and balances. This new procedure also means that all 1,500 entrants will receive written feedback on their award submissions.

During the judging process it became apparent that an exceptional number of high quality entries have been submitted for the Acute or Specialist Services Redesign and Community or Primary Care Services Redesign categories, therefore HSJ have decided to split the awards using regional boundaries to ensure all those worthy of recognition are not passed over. This adjustment of the categories means a total of 26 winners will be announced at the finalists’ awards ceremony at the Intercontinental London, The O2 on 21 November.

HSJ editor Alastair McLellan said: “In this historic year for the NHS we were inundated with applications demonstrating continued determination to deliver first class healthcare, harnessing the latest innovations while ensuring value for money. The quality was of such a level that we took the unprecedented decision to regionalise two of the categories to ensure due recognition.

“The HSJ Awards continue to be the gold standard awards programme in healthcare, giving a boost to teams and organisations through improved morale and assisting with efforts to secure support for projects. Each winner serves as an inspiration to organisations up and down the country, spurring teams to improve and adapt best practices.” The shortlisted organisations will now complete presentations and interviews to a specific judging panel made up of senior and influential figures from the health sector.

The 2018 HSJ Awards come as the NHS marks its 70th birthday, providing the opportunity to celebrate those who continue to innovate and drive forward improvements in healthcare, delivering quality outcomes for patients, while ensuring the best in value and effectiveness. GRI (previously known as de Poel health+care) are the headline sponsor of this acknowledged annual benchmark of healthcare excellence.
